Hi everyone, In a months time i am being made redundant from work, so i am slowly stockpiling food and hay etc so i can get the best value for money, but also good quality.

I usually buy 1 bag of Oxbow Western Timthy Hay (the 1.1kg bag) and 1 bag of Oxbow orchard grass. Those two bags usually last me about 4 weeks.
i will keep buying this if i dont find a suitable alternative, but i want my money to last as best it can until i find another job...

Honor suffers if she has hay that is off low quality and that is dusty and gets a bad chest from it, so i am looking for Hay that i can buy online for a good price (in bulk if poss), dust free and smells fresh.

I have thought about

Dust free hay
and
Hay for pets

I know both have had good reviews, but as never used them myself am always wary to buy hay in bulk that i have not used before. Can i have your honest reviews of both or either supplier, or another supplier, how big the bag is and how long it lasts you?

Thanks so much. I am starting to worry as redundancy approaches and want to buy all i can in how while i have the money. (I have some money put aside for emergency's)

Thanks

Jenny along with Honor and Haven :D

I use Hay for Pets and get the biggest bag (9.5kg) of Timothy and Rye - £16.00 it generally lasts me a good couple months it's packed really well so I like to spend time to separate it all out.

Delivery is generally a couple days but can be up to a week it is delivered by Courier - Yodel and you can track the delivery too.

I'm so glad I found hay for pets mainly because it is cost effective for me to buy a big bag instead of small bags every month from the local pet shop.

Also Timothy and Rye is coarse so it's great for piggie teeth and Maple's teeth have been so much better since she's been eating it. Plus it's great for bedding too. No complaints from my brood

High recommend! And so do... Rambo, Patch, Lucky, Maple and Pecan
Although haven't seen Rory eat any of it yet! Or not to visual knowledge ;)

Sorry to hear about you been made redundant. I have nothing but love for Dust Free Hay and there 'Soft English Hay' not too keen on Timothy from them though

I'm using Hay for Pets at the moment and order a small bag of their meadow hay (2.5kg). It costs £10 and is a good size for me (I have two piggies). Just ordered my 2nd bag - pleased with both the smell and feel of it, but can't say what the taste is like! Although the piggies seem to prefer it over the Ings hay that Hay for Pets do. Difficult to say how long it lasts, as not made it through a full bag yet, but mine have been using different sorts for the last couple of months, trying to find one that suits them both! If you can afford to get the bigger packs, it works out much better value of course. I got one of their sample packs - not much in them, but good to see if your piggies will like the hay or not. Think it cost the postage (£4?) and I got a sample of Ings, Meadow and Timothy & Rye. Hope you find something your piggies will enjoy and that is cost effective for you. Good luck on the job search too :)

My boys love their Oregan grown Timothy but it is very hard...freshest you can get but hard....i bought some INGS and they love it! I may try their soft english now however now i know someone who has tried it :)

I've just changed to Hay for Pets and was very impressed with their "Ings Hay". The pigs all love it too, so win-win. £16 for 9.5kg is the best value I've found.
