We just recently started feeding aubergine to our piggies and they absolutely love it. I'm really surprised as they are really suspicious whenever I feed them something new.

So if you haven't tried it yet, give it a go. Your piggies might like it, even the picky ones. :))

parsnip and celeriac

I read somewhere that the skin of he aubergine has high contents (as far as fruit and veg go) of nicotine in it. For that reason, I have never given any to mine. But also, as they are a very expensive vegetable, I tend to keep it for my dinner... My piggies have been offered parsnip and celeriac peelings with some success, if you want to try that...

I believe it's actually the seeds that contain an insignificant amount of nicotinoid alkaloids. They aren't harmful but you can always remove them before giving them to the piggies. As with most other vegetables, feed with moderation. As for the price, they do deserve spoiling every so often. :))

Thanks for the suggestions re celeriac and parsnips. I've tried celeriac before and they won't touch it but they eat whole parsnips.

Helen, I'll send you a pm... finally got a weekend sorted to drive South.

I have to say that the article I read about that was around 20 years ago, so I'm sure i'm excused for mixing skin and pips... I'll try to see if mine like it but they are so fussy! and they get fed up so quickly....grrrr

Yes, they do tend to get fed up with food fairly quick. If they get the same thing more then twice in a row, they leave it (apart from their all time favourite, Romaine lettuce). rolleyes
