Are pet store animals okay?

I adopted Jingle and Mistletoe from a rescue, Rosie and Cherry B from a rescue, Cufflinks (boar) from gumtree and Tani from a family who gave her to me cos her companion had died of old age.

I would get gpigs from pets at home adoption section if I didnt have any local rescues.

I got my boars from Pets At Home. I didn’t know I was going to get a guinea pig until I met my Louis. I was in there looking for rabbits in the rescue bit. I had been checking all the rescues for a house bunny for months...turns out I didn’t find the right bunny because I was destined for guinea pigs!

I always think it's good to rescue if at all possible. That said, there really are no many option as far as guinea pig rescues where I live and my pigs have been pet store pigs. They have all been healthy and fine. There is really only one large chain left in my area that sells animals and I'm actually quite happy with the way they sort by gender, etc. The other chains that didn't seem to do as good a job have all dropped off like flies here.

Agreed. Rescue pets are great for so many reasons. But I’m happy with my pigs from the pet at home and felt the sales assistant knew enough about them to help advise me. The vet there also gives a free check up in the first couple of weeks-and the adoption pets in the shop are eligible for free neutering.

Two of mine are from the rehoming section of pah,and I haven't had any issues with them, but I did quarantine them for 4 weeks before I put them in the same room as my others. There is Ayr guinea pig rescue too in Scotland.
