Anyone up? Please help guinea pig electrocuted

will explain how this has happened after but my pig sam has chewed a wire and electrocuted himself.

He is very floppy

Has eaten two nuggets

I called emergency vets and they said all they can do is keep him warm and rehydrate him so *** no if i should take him....will that cause him more stress

Help
 
if you're worried, take him. But they may not be able to do anything and those visits are pricey.
 
oh no am so sorry. If the vets won't do anything I'm not sure if it's worth stressing him, how long ago did it happen? Can you syringe feed him?
 
Your pig needs to be at a vets, if he was electrocuted he could have burns in his mouth, even if you can't see them, he needs to be at a vets now. Please get him to the pig savvy vets asap. Depending on the voltage he could have some severe problems that are not noticable to you at the moment. Floppy and hardly eating is not a good sign.
 
try and keep your guinea in a stable temperatue...
so like cover loosly in a towel and keep him in the pet carrier in sight... and i'd probably leve him to calm down...
PLEASE try your hardest not to scare or make him jump and his heart beat might be a bit mental for a bit...

please watch for burns in his mouth aswell....
possibly syringe some "dyralite" or bio-lapis as they might be a bit messed up after the shock...
maybe a bit of a sugary solution aswell....

I don't know when it happened I'm just home from work my boyfriend plugged something in and left the cable on the floor and Sam had a good chew. They live in a wire proofed room.

Could have happened a few hours ago i think.

I have him in his iglo with hot water bottle next to it.

Vets said it might not be worth it because all they can do is give fluids.

I'm just going to look out syringes and syringe him some water.

Unfortunetly there is no cavy savy vet open

oh god....
have you got any thing like glucose powder...?
we gave my friends bunny glucose powder/water mix to bring her out of the shakes and shock she was in....

poor little piggie...

water with sugar in should work just aswell...
try wrapping him in a towel... we didnt have to do this with bunny.... but she was flopped... :o

atleast hes trying to get away... thats a good sign that he's lively... :)

Hope your lil piggie pulls through, it must be tough seeing him like this and not having a savvie vet available :(
 
He is really fighting me when I try to syringe anything.

Managed to get about 0.5ml of sugar water in him. Not much but something
 
If he's fighting you then that sounds very promising to me. Try to get the syringe behind his incisors and slip some fluid in.

atleast thats something...
i think i'd just keep an eye on him through the night and kepp his fluids up... and obviously any deterioration phone the emergency vets....
i'd probably get him in the vets first thing this morning...

unfortunatly our vets said theres not alot they could do in our situation with bunny... i'd concider trying to get some critical care down him... or atlest soften some pellets for him.... just incase he has a sore mouth...
but i'd seriously think about getting him checked over first thing... to make sure heart is working proply and theres no neurological problems.... becuase lets face it... the last thing anyone wants with there piggies is unnecissary suffering...

Please get your pig to the vet - electrocution can cause serious internal damage. Has your pig pee'd and poo'd since it happened?

Have been up all night with Sam.

He has stopped shaking but is still wobbly.

I have managed to syringe a small amount of water, sugar solution and some mushed pellets. He is also eating his soft poops but wont eat food.

My mum is on her way down to have a look at him and decide if we should go to the vets now.

He is deff improved but just not sure what is best. He has had a hot water bottle close by all night so has been cosy and had naps with me under the covers as I have been lying on the floor next to him in a blanket!
 
aww only just catching up on this thread, get him to the vets for checks for burns etc, at least it will put your mind at rest and let you know you're doing everything you can, at best they may be able to offer some help. I really hope he's ok
 
I am so sorry to hear about what has happened to your piggy, please get him seen by a vet asap, as has been said it's not worth the risk to leave him. I do hope that he is ok. Please keep us updated xx

glad hes doing better....
but now the shock has worn off you do need him checked out for brain and heart injuries.... i really would have had him there first thing...

Oh god this is really serious, any accident of this type has to have an entry would and an exit wound and I guarantee there will be both somewhere. My husband electrocuted himslef on the washing machine a few years ago, the shock went through is left arm across his chest and our of his right arm, he was in intenive care for 2 nights due to an iregular heart beat and a very bad exit burn on his right arm.

Please get to the vet !
