My pig Eggs was just at the vet because he has 2 big scabs/wounds on his back feet, I’m assuming bumblefoot. The vet said it’s very early, nothing too major yet. He’s got some antifungals and hibiscrub to clean his feet and I’ll have to change his bedding even more of course.

I was feeling like a terrible owner but my other piggy Ollie’s feet are absolutely pristine and in the near decade I’ve had pigs I’ve never had anything like this, their bedding gets cleaned constantly but Eggs is a very very very silly pig and he poops and pees in the same spot he lies down no matter how much I clean :( I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for different types of bedding or anything that might help mitigate this?

You aren’t a bad owner - sometimes it just happens. There can also be underlying reasons for it.

What bedding do you use at the moment?
If fleece, is it wicking properly?

Soft, small pieces of vetbed or fleece squares are good in high traffic areas/favourite resting spots as it means you can remove it a few times a day and add a fresh one in without disturbing the rest of bedding.

Eggs seems to have almost constant health issues. Recurring abscess, recurring eye issues now this. I took him off someone a few hours away who didn’t want him and he was living on his own in a cold shed so god knows what sort of breeding he had. :( I use a mix fleeces and those thick bath matts with the little baubles (if that even makes sense)! I’ve picked him up some individual thick fleece pads on Amazon so I can patch change more often. I try to keep their hay inside the grids but they always yank it down and in Eggs’ case yank it down then pee on it

Aww poor boy.

It’s fine and actually beneficial for them to be amongst hay on the floor is their cage ( we actually don’t recommend the use of hay racks). You just need to throw wet hay away and replace it

Yeah I don’t use hay racks! I’ve found they don’t like them at all and they much prefer to burrow
