Facebook groups for guinea pigs really anger me and it's prob silly...
but there are sooooo many of them and ive only just started "liking" some of them but already every day i see posts about sick guinea pigs - for example - oh my piggy has a snotty dried up nose what should i do.... arrrgh take him to a vet! sheesh! why can't these people just google the answer Google normally brings you to this forum anyway where you can find the answer straight away from people I really really trust! this forum is established and run properly not some facebook group set up by any old tom dick or harry! instead the facebook groups give mixed responses from a huge range of people and experiences and with such vague info provided in the first place and no follow up results to confirm what the issue was and how it was resolved! basic rule of pet ownership is if they aren't 100% healthy then take them to the vet! if you aren't prepared to do that then you sure as hell shouldn't have kids in my book! arrrgh sorry really stupid totally off topic rant over!

really hope this hasn't offended anyone who may run a fb group its more a rant at the people who post stupid questions and then sit gawping at fb waiting for it to provide answers like a god! Ive taken to answering every post I see with "take them to the vet immediately" out of principle lol

Since MSN Messenger went defunct I've had to get on Facebook to be able to instant message friends & family in Canada, New Zealand & far off parts of OZ as they are all on the awful thing. Other than that I avoid it. I find Falken's description of pandering to narcissim to be apt. Recently my daughter-in-law went around boasting about how David Hasselhoff is a follower of hers as if it conferred some special status on her.

I don't have a problem with facebook groups as in my opinion some people feel more comfy asking on a group rather then joining a forum. People often come on here asking before seeking veterinary attention so makes no difference where you ask in my opinion. Some people want reassurance before seeing a vet as they don't want to waste vets time. My problem is especially on facebook people think they know better then the next person. On a forum you won't find bullying whereas on facebook you do as its the 'my opinion is better then your opinion' mentality. I try to keep off the groups as much as possible and only reply if I feel I can help. Saves hassle.

I can see your point. It is the same on yahoo answers. People ask stupid questions about how to treat sick animals at home when it is obvious they need a vet.

We use Facebook as a way to promote the forum, the rise in Facebook can only damage forums like this one as a place were information is gathered and stored. You can search this forum for lots of info previously written unlike Facebook.
Facebook has its uses and most people have an account, but the increasing popularity of it, I feel does put forums like ours at risk.

I only recently got facebook but I have to say, I am steering clear of guinea pig groups and pages (aside from the forum one, obviously!) because I know I will find it too hard to see the way some people are

Thankfully I haven't come across any of those. I tend to follow one and they share from others.

I did come across a slightly obnoxious person who said guinea pigs should never be bathed but was politely corrected that long haired piggies will need bum baths and that baths also helps with bonding of groups... That's about it really.

I'm on FB a lot, its one of my main sites other than this forum, my art forum and some game sites I am a part of.

I have to say I've never had a problem so far but then I don't follow any guinea pig groups on their other than my vets, this site and a website for getting animals off of gumtree.

I've met and spoken to some other piggie owners and given them advice if I ever see friends of friends with them as pets. Most take my advice.

This is exactly my issue, forums as a form of "social online interaction about specific subjects" existed long before the likes of "social networking" forums are better monitored by trustworthy people and Having facebook lower the popularity of this forum breaks my heart as this is my only place I would ever come and I love the community on here! quite frankly when i first got my piggies i had lots of issues and doubts but the support of you guys has turned me into the crazy piggy mad loving lady I am now! I am literally obsessed with my boys and can't believe I ever contemplated puting them up for adoption now! so thank you all for that!

I am a huge supporter of this forum and if my Piggy bed selling takes off will happily donate to help keep you guys operational too.

I only use fb for 3 things:
my photography page to network with models i dont want to "friend"
myguineapigpals page to promote my pig beds and to hopefully sell them
and to arrange group outtings with large numbers of people

other than that facebook has no place in my life, it can be fun it can be frustrating but it is not the be all and end all of my life! I even found out today that a colleague of mine that i rarely talk to got upset that i unfriended him before xmas - I couldnt believe he would even notice let alone be that offended that he would moan about it to everyone I work with ah well haha I couldn't even tell you how many friends i have on there I never look

Wow, i think i am the only person without a facebook account. Sometimes i wonder if I am missing out and if i should join but then threads like this just make me think how stressful
it all sounds!8

Don't worry I've not got one either :) Don't join, it's not worth giving away vast troves of personal information with no guarantee it won't be sold on in future.

You are not missing anything lol. I swear some people post things like. I have just been to the toilet. Now I am having some toast. Now I'm in asda lol like anyone cares

Are people migrating to another site or are people getting bored with sharing every detail? All the arguments at the stables where i keep my horse seem to originate with everyone falling out on facebook, thats what put me off initially!

I don't have facebook. This is my facebook ai can talk about anything without being bothered by idiots. If I want to talk to friends I text them
