Yes, it's back again. No wonder I've been feeling so washed out.

Been taking the iron again - got the diarrhoea again too >:( Fun at work .

oh poor you I've got a feeling my Dr will arrange blood tests for me again wednesday when I see him as my ulcers been playing up ánd being anemic is a sign,

I got it when i was preggers last time. Thankfully it went away after the birth. Poor both of you. Hope things get sorted out soon.

i wasn't diagnosed until 27. My bowel was such an ulcerated mess it can't absorb iron and minerals properly. So I have regular bloods. But generally, yes they do together anyway as all coeliacs have poor absorption.

Diet-controlled. Gluten-free everything

I should take regular iron and regular calcium too.

Thanks guys.

I have to balance the iron with hefty dose of Loperamide!

Or I can't leave the house ;D

That's ok, you don't need to go anywhere!

Getting a running machine, you have Tesco delivery, and work from home via the internet! :D

I have anaemia too from fibroids and hate taking iron as I get bad diarrhoea so you have my sympathy :(

That's the thing with anaemia, unless you are able to address the cause, it's generally an ongoing thing :-\
Not nice though.

Have you tried complementary therapies, maybe homeopathy could help?

Barbara

I'm anaemic too, and always feel a bit sicky after taking iron. It's not nice at all!

When my anaemia was particularly bad the doctors gave me an iron injection which, although unpleasant to have (couldn't sit down the rest of the day!), it boosted my energy levels and got rid of the sickness. Problem with the injection is doctors don't like dishing it out - apparently it's quite expensive, so it would probably depend on your local health service and whether they allow it on the NHS. I was lucky that I got to have it twice before they decided it was "too expensive." Worth asking though!

Oooh, another thing I find helps is drinking lots of orange juice. Vitamin C helps you absorb iron better, so I find I can get away with taking fewer tablets (rather than the three I'm supposed to!) which means less sickness!

I've not long been diagnosied with 2 fibroids and its driving me mad the medication is not working and am feeling washed out suspect this along with stress has flared my stomach ulcer up will see DR tomorrow , what have you been given for your fibroids?

Would eating liver and cabbage every day help? Aren't they supposed to be iron rich. Mmmm!

Have also heard cocoa is full of iron too :)

But seriously, presumably it's more than diet in your case. Look after yourself and as the others say, take your medicine. Imagine if it was a guinea - you wouldn't miss it then would you! ::)

I had a laparoscopy and was told they were too big to remove except by opening my caesarian scar again meaning a full operation which I don't want unless it's a hysterectomy. I was told when I had my son nearly 7 years ago by the consultant that I'd need a hysterectomy before I was 40 which is next year but have since been told they don't like doing them 'just' for fibroids, only cancer.

I don't have any treatment other than ponstan for period pain and iron for the anaemia. However my periods are getting heavier and heavier and after two or three days I flake out exhausted, which is when I pop the iron as I can't tolerate it full time.

I went back to eating red meat but it doesn't make any difference.

Roll on the menopause....... ;D

It's an ongoing thing for a coeliac. I eat loads of meat and chocolate is very good too ;D

My worst reading was a haemoglobin of 5 and a ferritin of 6. My GP said he had only ever encountered one person with worse (Hb 4.5) and she was starting to get cardiac failure from it.

I keep it up with iron on and off, but I think my last blood donation really took it out of me.

I thought from when I had the kids and you were given iron tablets in the 1st few months that they made you constipated, they did for me anyway ;)
