Does anyone use A & P guinea pig food? If you do, what do you think of it and which one do you use? I'm looking at changing across to it

Thanks

Not used it for the pigs, but i was looking into changing my bunnys feed as one of them keeps getting a dirty bum, and I'm sure Allen and Page was suggested as being a good bunny feed.

Just looked on their website and it looks like they just do a mix as i could not see a nuggets one.

Here is the info

Not sure how good the above info proves the feed to be I'm sure Laura CCC4 will be able to advise better than me.

I'm not sure if you would want this though as they would just pick out the bits they like.

What are you feeding at the moment?

|I have used them in the past, they do two sorts, one is the naturals range and the other is standard. They do not do a pelleted one they are both mueslie type. Piggies used to like it but they became very selective in what they ate so I stopped using it.

Think they are the same with the Bun feed as well, i dont want to get my buns on a mix as they are on Burgess Excel pellets now and loving them but Ella keeps getting a sticky bum which apparently has happened to a few buns on Excel.rolleyes

The rabbit food is pelleted and we have used it for our buns for the last two years. They also do different ones for buns one is the breeders one which I think is supposed to be better if they need to put on weight or a basic one which we used. It is a lot cheaper than most foods but only comes in 20k ?( I think) sacks.

Thanks everyone. A & P definitely do a pelleted form of their rabbit feed and I think of their guinea pig feed, it just doesn't seem to be so well advertised. The pellets are in 20kg sacks. The GP is in a light blue paper bag and the rabbit is in a brown one. I think the GP one simply has bits of carrot in it but I may well be wrong. I'll email them and ask

My rabbits are currently on Mr Johnsons pelleted mix however they both had funny tummies within a week of each other, and it coincided with a new bag of food, so I am worried about the consistency of it now. They have been on it for over 2 years but rabbit stasis is frightening.

The GPs have come to me on a mix that is apparently very similar to Gerty. They are selectively feeding and I am happier using a pelleted variety because I know that they will be getting everything they need. Roman and Dexter were both on pellets and did very well. Because these 4 are so young, I want to ensure that they are on the best from the start and also get them used to pellets from an early age. I can source most feeds locally.

Thanks for the link. I wonder if i could get them to send me out a sample so i could see if they both like it.

Ellas poos are lovely and golden most of the time put she gets the odd sticky ones. She has just been for her booster and had the Bunny MOT and got 100% so not sure whats causing it. I give veg every other day. But stopping it for a few days and giving her mainly greens as she loves carrots so wondering if they are causing it.

They are a worry I'm always giving her a bum wash thankfully she is really happy to be handled so it makes life easier.

Sorry for hijacking this thread. ")

The guinea pig ones are definitely mixes as opposed to pellets. On the G W Titmus website the pellets and mixes are on different pages .

thanks Toffee4ever. It is so difficult to know what to do for the best isn't it! I'm sure when I was a child there was probably just one feed and that was it. Now it is like a science lesson! All good I know as it means our animals welfare is being looked after with the advances in nutrition, but confusing for us none the less!

My primary concern is that there are no artificial nasties in the feed. This is how I chose my chook food, the rabbits feed and even mine and Hubby's feed! I suppose the best thing is to try a few and see which one they prefer and do best one on.

ANd Lindsay - don't be daft! My rabbits are as important as my piggies, so I am always interested to hear how other people are doing with theirs :)
