ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ - New UK Online Safety Act.

to be honest face to face meets should be really open forum, time and a place meet up.....

Zoom meets will require more planning and careful thought.

The important thing here is keeping the forum running and incident free/risk low

I have enough of an issue with emails as it is. You really wouldn’t want me anywhere near them!
i hear you, things like the focussed inbox on outlook does my head in..... I can never find emails i have recently read. i hate it. I may go back to telegram or carrier pigeon/piggle

I have spent hours looking for emails that have been designated by AI as less important than I think they should be and have reinstated simple list status where I can but I’m losing the battle with Apple’s notification system saying I have x unread when I know there’s many more or saying I’ve none whereas I’ve got several over multiple inboxes

Yeah, I turned off focused, just give me a list of sent by date. I don’t need to have a filter, modern life is so confusing now. We reached pinnacle in 90s

This last IOS update has been a nightmare with emails. And I have an issue in that emails were a major trigger for me with my mental health a few years ago. I don’t need to go back there.
No definitely not. I am still on old IOS so mine hasn’t updated to anything like that.

I know how you feel. Outlook keeps changing as well, every time I think I've got it they change it again. I had a message from them today asking how I rated the 'new outlook', they may wish they hadn't asked!

From reading further on this thread, I think it's clear now what I meant? Since several concrete solutions have been given.
Yes, thanks! I realised that as I read it so wanted to try and find some solutions. Thanks for your input, it really got me thinking and the event section is only viewable now when signed in, and for future zoom meets we’ll more than likely be asking attendees to email the admin forum address so details can be passed onto event organiser.
It really helps to have peoples ideas as it is “everyone’s” forum. So thank you again

To all members, this is advanced warning that the PM system will be getting turned off on Thursday 13th March 2025. Our reasons being all forum conversations will be in the open. More details to follow closer to Thursday. 👍
@sport_billy , @BossHogg Just a query, will we still have access to old PM/DM's after them being disabled Thursday? I have a few that have information (old piggy photo's/videos, contacts, etc) in them that I wouldn't want to lose. x

I understand the reasons for switching off the messaging. However, i have used it previously to help other forum members in need of help or to arrange transport for piggies. I am not sure how we can do this going forward without sharing our personal details on the forum.

I think we will need to go via the admins (as per BossHogg's post below) to exchange email addresses or similar in order to correspond privately off the forum.
There is also the contact page at the bottom of the forum, members who want to attend meet ups can post their intent via the contact page, only admin have access to the contact email, the details can then be passed to the organiser. 👍

I understand this concern. Perhaps if 2 members agree, they could provide their contact details to the admins (using the contact us link below) and ask for admin to forward their contact details to each other. This is how admin will be helping with setting up future zoom meets

We would strongly advise no one to ever share personal details on the forum. In exceptional circumstances like this I am sure @BossHogg would not have an issue using forum email to facilitate exchanging of details so you could communicate with someone to arrange a piggy train.
We know this is darn impractical and if the law was not coming into effect there would be no change but sadly this is not the case

Oh dear. I know I'm a technophobe, but honestly, I didn't know what a DM was -(took me about a year to work out that OH meant husband!) but had to chuckle that now I know what it means, I didn't know you could send messages on here anyway! It isn't a guinea pig forum I need so much as an idiot's guide to internet speak!

Apologies for the acronyms :)

Just bumped the Zoom meet thread and said I will post the link on the thread.
I agree with you @VickiA - I’m aware of one or two members who have left because of feeling harassed by inappropriate DMs
Meets over zoom sound like quite a fun thing to do. Lowers the risk of posting an "X location on Y date" for real life meets. I am very saddened to know that some people have left because of the PM (or DM, I've been using forums for decades, so its still PM to me heh) system.
Having been on & managed varying forums & communities for that long though, I have truly seen lets call it "some stuff", and I'm glad to see that at least currently this forum is a nice well behaved haven.

I think I’m possibly the only one who has hosted a Zoom meet and the one later this month may be the last one.
As far as I can see the posting of the link means that anyone can try to join without notifying me of their intention.
The main reason for keeping the information to DMs was to control numbers but this is not really an impossible task even if it’s posted on a specific thread.
