Age gaps?

For some reason no one seems to care as much about younger women/older men but there always seems to be an uproar when it's a younger man/older woman. Wonder why?

I've dated both men who were a lot older than me and also just before i married Allan when i was 29 i also went out with guys who were a lot younger.... I preferred the older ones.
It depends on you and your partner, you discuss it and be open with each and i can't see a problem. If anybody makes a comment to be nasty ignore them it's your relationship not theirs :)
Now go live your life and enjoy it O0 :) :) :)

I've always dated older guys - they are just more mature and I prefer that :) Steve my OH is 8 years older than me and I love him to bits - to be honest, our age gap never really bothers us - men never really grow up anyway do they! hehe ;D

Hey,

Smiler yes there is an obvious difference between us and we have had comments and sniping in public but I honestly dont care, I'm proud to be with him (and I'm hoping he feels the same!) Lucinda you beat me! >:D

No offence to anyone... and my veiws may change as I'm only a teen now but anyway...

I sort of feel there is a sort of limit... like if your 16 dating someone over 50 well thats just a bit far! but like 16 dating a 26 year old about 10yrs younger or older is thelimit for me... again, no offence :)

Hey everyone is entitled to an opinion! I think when someone is say 16 and they are seeing someone older it seems such a big gap but if someone was 40 and the partner was 50 I don't think it ever be mentioned. I would much rather see a friend or relative happy with someone older than with someone who is their old age who treats them like crap.

:) totally agree with you... I guess if you truly love someone and are happy with them then ages dont matter... :)

miss piggy....until you are AT LEAST 18, you are not an adult in my opinion and in the eyes of the law too.

A 30 year old man dating a 16 year old girl is VERY different to a 20 year old woman going out with a 50 year old man! The 30 year old guy is a pervert in my opinion. A 16 year old girl is still a baby, not even sexually mature, let alone emotionally! my little sister is to me and an older guy going out with her would be taking advantage of her innocence. I dont think that at 16 you know your own mind. if you arent allowed to vote, how an you be expected to hold down a relationship with a guy 2 or 3 times your age?!?!

Like i say i have first hand experience of this. I thought i was grown up and developed at sixteen going out with a guy over 10 years older, but all i had was large breasts and the fact id seen a few chick flicks. I know now the guy i was dating was a total perv, and if i saw him again i would not be impressed!

same here...

what i meant was a 16 year old dating an older person is wrong, but say a 30 year old dating a 50 year old... thats okay :)

well i met my fiance when i was 16...he was 24/25. and i can assure you i was very grown up at that age and not a silly little girl. i went through a lot when i was 10-15 and i grew up very fast i had to...

when i met mick i just knew he was special. not once did he pressure me to do anything and infact on our first date my mum was worried about me and phoned and he spoke to her on the phone assuring her what he felt for me was real after that neither of my parents had a problem with us and welcomed mick into our home. it was my brother who had the problem and if I'm totally honest it had totally nothing to do with him, and his opinion didnt count. Anyway 3 years on we are very happy together and i can honestly say i would not be here today with out him, he has stood by me through so much alot more than a guy my age would have.

The older the younger person becomes the less the gap seems to be.

Some of you girls may remember my diasterous attempts to try a toyboy

2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny

I thought I'd try the other end of the scale again. Never again - he was crazy. Mind you, so are the others ;D ;D ;D

Rhona your Mick sounds wonderful I too am married to a wonderful Mick but hes only 2 years older then me but we have been married 28 years in july :smitten:

Well i have been with my guy since i was 16, and my guy was 34, and i was wise beyond my years in everyone's opinions, and we are still together now and i'm 24 and he is 42, so i obviously knew my own mind well enough then to decide. But i have to say i do actually agree that it does seem a bit pervy a guy wanting to go out with a 16 year old, and i do think that of my man now still, but he always thought of me as an adult not a child.

hi i'm 24 and my soon to be husband is 31, i dont see a problem with age gaps :)

wow i hope we are together that long!

mick is just amazing i couldnt ask for a better fiance!

I agree with Kat, as I'm 23 and have taken responsibility for myself i.e. lived alone, payed bills, rent etc since I was 18, I know my own mind well and am strong enough to know what I'm doing, and hence taake no notice of jibes in the street at times! ;D
How old are you Kat by the way (if you dont mind me asking?!) ?
Thats what I like about people on this forum, theyre non judgemental and fair, piggies must have this influence on us... ;)

Well I am 16 and my boyfriend is 18, but I've been with him since I was 14, 2years of young love! ♥♥♥
I find age caps af about 20years abit weird, because of the mass age different, but say upto ten years isn't so bad.

The thing is though, when you pass a certain age, not sure what it was for me, prob about 20, 21 ish, it doesnt seem to matter, and my 29 year age gap just doesnt cross my mind when we're together, some people find it hard to understand but older guys can be so much more intelligent to talk to, and feel more...manly?! ;D

I'm fussy and picky about my men, I really CANNOT go out with same age people, they are FAR TOO IMMATURE! I like older men, like Robin hes 19 in july, he's mature, and hes big :D hE MY BIG ARMY MAN, I just cannot stand small and skinny. My men ogtta be 6foot or above! ;) and broad and big :D

Anyways I am off to bed, going to dream of baby guinea pigs :D Good night x

I am 37 I have been married for 20 years now, started dating my husband at 14 (he was 16) he joined the army, couldn't stand being apart,so got married at 17 (can't believe I got married that young, wouldn't let my kids do the same NO WAY) Gaz was 19 on the day of our wedding,I had lewis at 19, Keira at 22 and Hallie at 30, We are having a party fo our 20th anniversary in May, a party with a difference, A medieval party,I've got a gorgeous dress that has been made especially, I live on a main road and I can't wait to see everyone crossing the road from the car park in all their costumes. My OH has been really busy arranging it all (i have helped a bit) He has even built some stocks, Will get everyone in them for photos. CANT WAIT. Even gonna do some medieval dancing.

I don't consider it an "age gap" unless there is about 15-20 years difference. I perceive an age gap as being when the older person could be the younger one's parent.
