Hi all!

Just wondered what everyone thought of age gaps in relationships, e.g. is there a limit etc. I'm 23 so whats eveyones opinion on the oldest man I should be with or does it not matter? I'm currently in a relationship with an older man and people have mixed views, just wondered what you lot all thought?

Thanks!

Cat x 0:)

My sister is 26 this year and I think her fiance has just turned 37. She has always acted older so you can't really tell the difference.

I personally have a thing about going out with a man who is younger (even just a day!) I don't know why! I think it really depends on the people and personalities because I know people with gaps and they work well but i also know other people that I think is really creepy i.e. my ex-uncle has just married his third wife. He is about 58 and she is about 27/28 and from Cuba (he doesn't speak Spanish and she doesn't speak English ::) ::))

I am 31. The man I have been with for the last four years on and off is 50.

Before that I was with a man 27 years older than me, before that the difference was 30 years.

It doesn't matter at all - either way round. :)

My parents had like 2 years I think... my dad is 37 and his girlfriend is nearly 40 bu as long as you both love eachother I dont hink it really matters :)

age doesnt matter as long as you both love each other, thats what matters most O0

my partner is 7 years older than me... so what.. I dont really think age matters that much. Even if it was 15 years or more.

Just imagine yourself when you are retired - does it matter if you are 70 and he is 85? No? Thought so.
But if you are in your 20s, everyone goes "did you really think this through" as soon as you go out with someone who is considerably older than you. Bleh.

I think that you need to think about it, just as if someone is from another country/ religion. But none of those things matter really if you go into it with eyes open.

all my boyfriend have been 2 years older then me and when I married Mick he too is 2 years older wierd, but I must admit what the heck does it matter unless kids come into it with a big age gap, my brother is 15 years old then his 2nd wife but she is older then her years

I don't think age difference should matter. As long as you are comfortable and love each other. When I was 18 I dated a guy who was 6 years my senior and we were in two different places in our lives it didn't work out(thank goodness). Now I'm with my boyfriend of 2 years and we're only a couple of months apart. Every one's circumstances are different. Who are we to judge others relationships. If they are happy then let them be happy. When we get old we all look the same anyhow ---wrinkly ;D

when I was 18 i dated a guy who was 29, we had nothing in common at all..so i guess age can play a part in difference because we were from different decades lol my mother wasnt very happy either, some other guiys have all been my age, and pete my bf who ive been with nearly 2 years is 24 this year and I'm 20 but we get on so great, and that isnt really a big gap, if i was 23 id say the oldest guy id go with would be 30-33ish..i think any older than that and id not have anything in common with them.

I have a 38 year old who REALLY likes me, but I said, no as the age difference is a bit much for me as I'm 21.

I think my views would change as i get older, at the mo I'm 20 and I'm looking forward to settling down in years to come having children etc..and with someone that like maybe double your age they may have already done all that and not want it all again.

Age means nothing! I've always gone for older men. When I was 18 I was with a 44year old, and just last year (when I was 19) I was with a 34year old.

I'm 23 and the biggest age gap I had was 4 years. I think it really does depend on the person as I don't think someone older would want to go out with me because I act so so young! Although I wouldn't see a problem of an older man I think 10 years would be my limit (but if I fell in love I suppose it wouldn't make a difference)

My present boyfreind is only a year older and it's nice to share all the same childhood experiences.

I think they are great lol, i have been with my boyfriend since i was 16 and he was 34 at the time, and we have been together over 7 years now, and nobody thought it would work out but it has! It is personality that counts thats all.

My stepdad's brother and his wife have about a 20 year gap. They broke up at one point cos he didn't want any more kids, having had 4 in his forst marriage, but she was in her early 20s and really did want kids. Eventually they did get back together and he had a reversal so they could have kids. That was 15 years ago and they have just split up, sadly.

Hmm, its interesting to hear different perspectives on it from people of all ages and backgrounds. My current partner is 29 years older than me, but we have so much in common and I love him to bits. :smitten: He has been married but no kids, i kinda avoid thinking about the future - at the moment i dont want kids but things might change, but i couldnt see life without him right now, I guess live for the day, you cant help who you fall for! :smitten:

well when I was 19 I had a brief, but rewarding relationship with a 42 year old, who I still speak to now. I usually go for older men (I have rarely gotten on with men my own age!) but now I'm 23, and Gil is 22, we are a good match in all ways and that's just the way it has worked out :smitten:

Age has nothing to do with it, its the abilty to laugh with your partner, you know look across a crowded room and know what the other is thinking and laugh, Thats when its ok to be with each other.

I didn't find out how old my OH was antill we had been going out for ages, then i was complety gob smacked he is 10 years older than me, it didn't feel like it then >:D

They say that women act five years older then what they are and men five years younger so ideally by this saying there should be a five year age gap with the woman being older. ? Anyway there is a 24 year age gap between my parents and I can happily say they are still happy together and have been for the past twenty years. So I don't think there is a problem with age gaps providing they are not to big e.g. 40 years or that it is not creepy e.g. sixteen year old going out with a 43 year old (true couple). :o :)

I personally never go by age. I have mixed with older a lot in my life. Over relationships with opposite sex i probably would never go with a guy older than 20.

Ha - beat you. I had a guy who was nearly 31 years older ;D

I have a toyboy - but only by a year haha. Before James tho I tended to go for the slightly older man (up to about 10yrs older) but I can certainly see why lots of women find older men attractive. I wouldn't say no to Harrison Ford ;D

I think if you are too young, being with an older person can make you a bit too old before your time, and i really think you should live your life before you resign to the slippers. ;D

One thing i hate is guys or girls dating people under 18 when there is a big age gap, when i was 16/17 i was with a guy who was nearly thirty...back then i saw nothing wrong and thought i was all grown up and it was totally normal...but looking back, he must have been a total pervert and i was a silly little girl trying to grow up too fast! :o

Once you are 18-20, whoever you date is up to you in my opinion, but even the most 'mature minded' person is a kid upto 18 at least, so i think an older guy (or woman) in the picture is just wrong, because even if you both consent, theres still a degree of taking advantage. Ive been with andy 2 years and he's coming up to 25 and I'm 21...thats perfect for us...and in the grand scheme of things thats nothing and we are both on the same wavelength!

My OH is 7 years older than me, my previous partner & my ex hubby were 2 years younger. Age has never played a part

Agree with everything you said Smiler, my friend is eighteen now and has been going out with a 43 year since her sixteenth birthday :o. That's not the worst of it, this man was her dads best friend, he has one leg and he use to change her diapers. :o I am not joking.

That is just iucky! I'm thinking of my little sister, shes only a baby now, but if she got to 18 and was dating a guy that old....well lets just say i wouldnt like it :tickedoff: And the fact that he had changed her nappy...thast just perverted surely?!?!

That is pretty strange... :o
I do agree with some points, especially when the girl is under 18 i think its just a bit wrong of the guy if he is a lot older, but as I'm 23 and have quite a bit of 'life experience' I am going into this with my eyes open. A 29 year age gap may seem quite a lot but when we're together it just never crosses my mind. Hmm.... :smitten:

Thats excactly what i said, if you are old enough to actually consent to a relationship, an age gap shouldnt even be mentioned!

Is there an obvious difference in age between you both?

Mind you, these days there are lots of things to make you look younger and make up that can make you look older, so i think with most couples its impossible to tell!
