About water bottle dropping! Help Please !

I have dropped bottles (plastic) and bottle spouts on the floor more times than I can count. All I ever did was rinse them off before reattaching them. Only thing I ever had to do as a consequence was try to learn to stop dropping things so much. Just rinsing them off will be fine.

Do you drop to the kitchen floor or somewhere else?

Will the bacteria grow in their bodies?

To me it sounds like you want someone to tell you you need to buy a new spout/bottle as you keep asking the same questions despite a few members saying the same thing.

I have dropped water bottles including on the slabs where they are housed outside. I rinsed it off and gave it to them. None of them got ill. Guinea pigs backwash into their water bottle so if bacteria is going to grow it would be more likely from them doing that than dropping the spout on the floor briefly.

By all means, if you would feel more comfortable getting a new one then just get a new one

So rinsing with water for twenty seconds is enough to kill bad bacterias from the kitchen floor right?

I can't give you the answer to that. I have told you want I did. I am not a vet and I am not a scientist or anyone else that may have studied bacteria.

I am sorry about repeating, but this is the first time of dropping it. So I want to be like more clear you know.

That's fine but you are asking questions that no one can answer. We are experienced piggy owners but not experts in the likes of what you are asking.

Please remember that Guinea pigs naturally live in the wild and will drink all sorts of water, eat all sorts of food and walk on all sorts of ground. They do not need to live in completely sterile surroundings to survive.

I have no experience with bacteria. But I’m sure that no bacteria will get in or live/increase inside the bottle after being dropped once. I’m sure (like myself) plenty of people here have dropped the cap on the floor and none of their piggies have become ill. You dropped the cap in the sink and the piggies were just fine. So unless you have pools of oil on the floor and it fell in one then it’s fine to just rinse.

Times are stressful enough now so you need to learn to relax and enjoy your piggies.

Hi your piggies will be perfectly fine. I Have dropped bottle spouts on the kitchen floor many times and just given them a quick rinse and I don't mop my floor all that often either. Rinsing thoroughly is enough to wash away any bacteria that might have come into contact with it but for your peace of mind you can always wash it in some hot soapy water then rinse it. Hot water is fine for both the metal and plastic parts. I often wash mine this way.
I understand you are finding this very stressful and are worried about causing your piggies harm, which shows how much you care but it really will be ok :)

I always use vinegar to clean residues in their bottles and the spouts. I feel better when I don’t see any residue inside their water bottles. I use vinegar to disinfect fleece bedding, inside their cage, toys, and etc.

I normally use the pure water from the faucet in kitchen which I drank to clean. Is it fine if I use kitchen tap water from faucet to wash in order to have a big water flow to rinse?

Do I have to use big water flow to rinse to make bacteria less?

@Xiaoxiao i don’t think you’re going to get the answer you seem to want. A lot of people have reassured you that your piggies will be fine. We’ve all dropped the caps at some point and our piggies are still here to tell the tale (of not being fed enough carrots!). Please do stop worrying.

I give filtered water to my piggies and not tap water. I drink the same filtered water I give to my piggies.

If you are very, highly concerned about bacteria, then I would give them filtered water.

in my house I don't have an option of purified water from the tap so always use the normal tap water both for washing and drinking for my self and the piggies. I don't know if the water in the US is different to the water in the UK but if people where you live drink the normal water it will be fine. Either a strong water flow for a short time or a slow water flow for a longer time will do the same job

I am absolutely positive that it will be fine. Count yourself lucky you're not in my shoes. All my piggies have got infested with mights and I can't go to the vets to get their solution and they don't sell the stuff we use online and so I have just scraped enough together to give my piggies a dose, but it is defiantly not enough for a second dose. I wouldent worry bout your water bottle. It will be fine.

Daisylovepiggies If you go to Auckland cavy care face book or website and find their email, they may be able to help you and post some down if they have some mite solution. I think they were selling some shampoo a while ago, it may have been for mites, I think. Sorry to change the subject.

Thank you, but I actually my friend just texted me she had a whole thing she could give me ( from her rabbit ) because she never actually used it! Yay!

I am so sorry about your piggies. I think using the right dosage of medicine for piggies are so important. So please email a vet or see the professional website for help. I am sorry to just give these vast ideas but not giving actual help.
