The mouse icon keeps disappearing from the screen of my laptop. It's been doing it for a few days now. The mouse icon has clearly decided it doesn't like me as it just goes on it's own Its not at the side of the screen either as I know that sometimes happens. Laptop has also been running really slow. I cleared the cache and cookies last night and it's now running faster. This hasn't solved the problem of the mouse icon disappearing. I've rebooted it, cleaned the mouse tracker pad and that hasn't solved the problem. I've tried to follow Aunty Google's advice but I can't see what she's on about on my laptop. Anybody any ideas? Please?

Is it a wireless mouse or plug in? If wireless, this sometimes happens when the battery is running low/dead.

I know the feeling well! As a technophobe I have no idea about anything computer related which is why mine is often threatened with extinction. Good Luck with finding your fault.

You might need a new mouse, tbh. That trackpad looks worn, possibly too worn to be useful.

My laptop isn't that old. It's only about 2 years old. My old laptop was fine which I had for over 4 years and the only reason I changed it was the charging port broke.

It's not about the laptop itself though, just the trackpad. They don't necessarily wear out at the same rate as the rest of the hardware.

I get problems with mine. I think they wear out quickly. My laptop was new early 2021.

Know anyone nearby with a wireless or plug in mouse you could attach to your laptop? It would confirm/rule out the worn track pad theory.

I am no on my OH's laptop as I can't sign into mine! The mouse icon is there but the sign in screen isn't. Son No 1 is coming over tomorrow afternoon so I'll ask him if he knows what's wrong and if I need a new laptop

Q&A online suggest maybe the mouse/trackpad driver needs updating.

The Aspire3 model is 4 years old now, sometimes extra RAM helps speed up older machines, but the 16Gb in the standard specification seems a decent amount...

I think the simplest thing to do would be to buy either a wireless or plug in mouse.Thats what I did when I had a similar problem a few years back.Hopefully your son can sort the issue though.

Have you checked your humane mouse trap ?

Son no 3 has tried with an external keyboard and an external mouse and neither of them work :(. I can get the sign in screen up now but laptop won't accept any numbers of my password and the cursor just blinks at me if it does anything at all.

It's playing again atm. I want to get all my piggie pictures off and my ebay pictures while I can!
Hope you managed to save all your piggy pigtures!

How Do I Fix My Laptop Keyboard? If your laptop is still not working, some of this may help ... The first thing they suggest is a hard shutdown; assuming you haven't been able to shut it down the normal way, hold down the power button until it switches off.

Done that several times. Will have a look at that link a bit later.

If you noticed the time when I posted, you'll see I'm on night duty, I've just got in bed! 😴😴😴

I love this post. As someone who regularly threatens my laptop with a hammer/ launching out the window this really tickles me!
