River had surgery on 30th March to remove some lumps. She had two incisions - the 'main' one down the centre of her chest, and one on her side. The main incision is healing fine and the scab has largely come away. I am concerned about the second one, though. It has scabbed over, and bits of the scab are coming off, but I can see purple stitches sticking out, and one bit of stitch came away with a bit of scab. Most of the wound looks okay, but there's one bit that looks a bit red, like it is opening up.

Is it normal for internal stitches to be 'pushed out' while it is healing?

If in doubt, please see your vets and have the wound checked for infection if you notice signs of redness and/or swelling.

My Dad has literally just left for the airport, so getting to the vets in the next few days will be a little more difficult.

We were thinking of calling Simon to ask, but I wanted to check on here first whether it is normal for internal stitches to be pushed out. It has been, after all, been three weeks since she had the surgery so the wounds have scabbed over.
