So soon I will be changing my guinea pig's bedding from wood shavings to Aubiose. Has anyone else done this recently? Is it better than wood shavings in every way? Also, my boys get wood shavings stuck in their bums a lot, does Aubiose get stuck in the same way or is it better? I'm just worried that if Aubiose got stuck it would really hurt them because it seems to be made of longer, sharper pieces.

Thanks for any answers! x

aubiose is not sharp at all so I wouldn't worry about that. My Donald has an "outey" following his neuter and he occasionally has a piece on his willy but it never causes damage. I don't find it sticks to his bum or gets stuck in the anal sack at all

We did use aubiose and found it very good, far better than shavings. However, we have recently moved to fleece. If you're anywhere near north Birmingham, you are welcome to pick up a nearly full bag from us. It's going free to a good home such as yours ;)

Don't like it ,l had a pig that died due to a blocked small intestine, vet opened the pig up
And a peice of obiuse was causing a blockage
Whach out for mistshaped, elongated poos, I have photos I will sort them out

why don't you move to fantastic fleece? I did use aubiose and other similar things in the past with another pig, but fleece+newspapers underneath is definitely the best choice: no more pieces stuck in their legs and bums, no smell and a lot of money saved... :D

I would move them onto fleece but I wouldn't know where to start and I would have to hand wash it!

Oh that sounds awful, so sorry mate :(

We use auboise for a while and loved it.
Super easy to clean out, and the piggies seemed very happy on it.

I am a huge fleece fan, but wouldn't recommend it if you have to hand wash.

Yeah, I think I will try it out.

I've been using aubiose for about two years and not had any problems at all. I love it

Yeah me you dumb a**e. With 8 fur balls, they cost me a pretty penny. Just don't ask me to carry anything currently done my back in...I'll catch up with you soon x

Personally I tried aubiose and have gone back to shavings as they are cheaper, more absorbent and do the job just as well. I put a thick layer of hay over the top of them, as I like the piggies to have lots of hay to play in. I really don't know why shavings have such a bad reputation as I have used them for twenty years with no issues whatsoever. I did try fleece at one point and found it horrible and smelly. I now use puppy pads with a thick layer of hay on top, for the in house piggies and the shed piggies are on the shavings and hay.

ive used Aubiose,i find it is very absorbent,i much prefere it to shavings.i use megazorb in my litter trays, ive found aubiose does not stick to longhaired piggies.you can always put a layer of hay on top of the aubiose.

I'll try aubiose with a load of hay on top. The problem is, the shavings I use used to be great but now they are really dusty and my pigs keep sneezing. I keep sneezing too!

hand wash? what's that?:lol::lol::lol:
When you get a piece of fleece you will wash it into a washing machine; 40°; normal soap; with other laundry; but without softener. One time is enough although it will work even better after 2-3 washing :). If you have a fast spin cycle the fleece will come out nearly dry.
