3rd Nipple!

So am I right in thinking that guinea pigs normally have just 2 nipples?

I have just discovered that both Ellie and Eden (sisters) have a third nipple in exactly the same place on each of them which is directly above one of the others, evenly spaced out. It's a little smaller but perfectly formed.

Sign of inbreeding maybe?

All I can think of now is Chandler and his nubbin from the TV series Friends :xd:
 
Two is normal for piggies, but I have heard of quite a few piggies with more. They all look feel okay?
 
I have had pigs with 3 and even 4 it is Not normal but not unusual, the 3rd and even 4th nipple is usualy not conected to a mamery gland! And is usualy nothing more than a peice of tissue on the surface of the skin!
But it worth a weekly inspection for signs of discharge! And if it dos sart to discharge ,a visit to the vet would be wise

Are you sure it's a nipple and not the belly button?

Edit : of course it isn't when i've read the location properly :))
 
Haha yeah it's a nipple. I will try and get photos later. It's tricky as they are well hidden in the fur which is why I've only just found them. They seem perfect. Not lumpy or crusty, just smaller than a normal one!

Yeah I was so shocked when i found out it's just 2. Edna had 6 babies in her litter before I took her. How she fed them all I don't know!
 
Eva also has a third nipple so is it genetic? Eva and all her offspring here have it. Edna is my only 2 nipple piggy :D
