Hi everyone. Just an update on my IC guinea pig, I picked up some Yurelieve for cats-they didn't want to give me cystease due to the sea shell ingredients involved, but the company of Yurelieve have apparenly been never tried on guinea pigs but there are no ingredients against their diet. my vet said she might experience side effects but it is very unlikely. I have to give her one capsule daily (they are the size of an antibiotic capsule) and it doesnt say how to give it to her. does anyone have any idea how much water I should mix it with and do i need to leave it overnight to soak the water or can I give it in the water straight away? Thank you x

Are there no instructions on the packaging? And did the vet not tell you how to administer it?

I've never heard of these but I would be interested to know how you get on. I have 2 boars on Cystease with no adverse effects.

I am a bit confused as to why your vet would avoid Cystease due to sea shell ingredients (I think maybe he meant shell fish). because Yurelieve also contains shell fish products?
Having said that I have also used Cystease on one of my guinea pigs for years with no ill effects and I know many other members have too, so the shell fish extracts don't seem to be an issue.

Is the Yurelieve in a capsule? If so pull it apart and tip the contents into a small cup (an egg cup or old medicine cup are perfect) and add a couple of mls of water. Stir it around and then draw it up into a syringe for feeding. Get rid of the capsule itself as this will contain gelatine.
I used to make up 4 capsules worth at a time and store in the fridge. This would last me 2 days (1 capsule twice a day) but you should check the actual dosage with the vet as I was using a different product.

I had 2 calls with the vets today and they were quite confusing, she told me that the company of yurilieve actually found a guinea pig alternative and to try and order that myself but i couldn't find it anywhere as its out of stock. I rang them back and I asked for the yurilieve but this time I spoke with the receptionist as i usually need to ask in advance to talk to the vet and they usually call me back and I picked up the yurilieve about an hour ago, there are no instructions just says take 1 capsule daily

Sorry I did mean shell fish! the yurilieve is just in a tablet form with no contents inside and the label from the vets just says take 1 tablet daily. Thank you for the advice on how to administer it :)

Sorry i made a mistake, the capsule was in a plastic kind of wrapping with powder inside, not a pure tablet. I accidentally put too much water with it so i ended up giving her it in about 6/7mls of water.

I use Cystease which I buy on line, far cheaper than getting it from the vet. I put a little bit of water in a cup pour the powder from the capsule into an empty medicine bottle, suck 2 mls of water up with a syringe and squirt it into the bottle, give the bottle a good shake (with the lid on!) the powder mixes well and it's easy to syringe back out again when needed. Store extra mix in fridge. Mine get one capsule a day split into two doses when having symptoms and half a capsule once a day as a maintenance dose when well.
