I currently use fitch, it's really soft but it's dusty and a bit expensive. Was thinking of switching to Aubiose, but a few reviews I've read said it's quite sharp and pointy? Although the reviews were from 2007 so I'm not sure if that's changed now. What do you think of the bedding?

Do I need to spread a layer of hay on top, and would it be suitable for gerbils?

I have used aubiose with both my piggies and gerbils, and still use it with my gerbils. It's a fantastic absorbant bedding that lockes urine under the surface so that the top layer stays dry! It's also fab for keeping smells down and the dust too! I would certainly reccomeng it! Yes, it isn;t the softest bedding in the world up against shavings etc, but it's far from hard on their feet!

I use aubiose, it can be quite dusty and if anything wet like peppers go near it the aubiose will stick to the pepper. I buy it for £10 for 20kgs. I rate it 8/10.

I am starting to use easibed it is £7 for 20kg, the pieces are bigger and it is less dusty and more absorbant. I rate it 9/10 although it does stick to peppers ...

I also use Aubiose and like it. I moved to it from Fitch. Yes it isn't as soft but I've had no problems with it (some others have reported bits sometimes getting stuck in their piggies "bits") and I use it for both sows and boars. It is great at the top layer always staying dry.

I don't put hay on top but the piggies do pull hay out of their hay racks anyway so it does end up with hay over some of it.

Interesting about Easibed @Maisy and Poppy - I've been thinking of trying it. My Aubiose stockist said it was rougher than Aubiose and bigger pieces. Is that right? Could you post a photo of it please?

It looks almost the same as Aubiose. Is it made of hemp too and does it do the same locking moisture away? Sorry for lots of questions. I'm interested because it is generally cheaper than Aubiose.
It is made of the same material, I'd say it's better at locking moisture away as I find aubiose is rubbish at that.

I stopped using Aubiose because it constantly got caught in my boys bits :( Do you have boys or girls? It wasn't too bad when covered with a layer of hay - but this needed to be changed daily and I found it just got smelly quite quickly. I do have stinky boars though!

I agree with all above posts.

It's easier for me to get Aubiose than Fitch but, I have found Aubiose gets stuck in my boy's bits . So, I I use Aubiose in the areas where I can i.e in hay trays and in the corner of the hutch. I put Fitch in the main area . Using a combination works for me .

PS - I have found aubiose and fitch gets stuck to their food. I have some fleece cage liners which I use as a placemat for their food!

Love aubiose, only downside is unless you put their veggies in a non aubiose area, it does tend to stick to the food. With the summer being here. I lay a ceramic tile in the main area and put the food on there, that way they have to walk onto the tile, good for nails, cooling feet, and saves the food getting covered in bedding.

I put the veggies into ceramic dishes but they just drag it out and so it gets Aubiose bits on it anyway . It doesn't seem to bother them.

I think I must be unusual in having boars and not having any issues with their bits. I check at least once a day but have never experienced it stuck in their bits. Will count myself lucky!

I used aubiose and it was terrible at getting stuck in boys bits... Then I realised I wasn't using it right and now I cover it with a layer of medi-bed which I change 2 or three times more often than the aubiose. It's great and my boys love it. Fitch was great but too expensive

I pay £7 for 20kgs.
Ooh, £7 for 20kgs is quite cheap! Do you think it would be okay for gerbils to use too?

Whoops sorry forgot to reply! I have both boys and girls (in separate cages/hutches).
