I have a 5 month old abyssinian guinea pig, and he is black and white (and he has a brown part on his face and butt). Recently I noticed his hair (the black part) is kind of turning grey. The image with the pillow was 4 months ago and the other image is recent. its hard to see in the picture but when i put him on my lap i can see grey hair.

He is very cute 😍 Coat colours can change as a piggy grows up. My late Edward was ginger and white. He was a really dark reddish ginger when he was young but he got lighter and lighter as he aged

My late Eliza had a dark grey leg and foot when she was a baby. It eventually turned lilac like the rest of her body

Some colours do have a fading effect over time. One of my pigs started her life with dark lilac markings on her face and by the time she passed at almost 7 the lilac had faded to very close to white.

But my guinea pig is only 5 months?

My B/W aby went lighter like that in the rosettes very young too. I have a black and beige smooth who is about 9 months, over the last few months his tummy has started going a dark brown (chocolate colour) and his back is getting a lot of lighter patches. They do change colour, I think the darker ones particularly.

Thanks!

It can definitely start early. Some cours do fade and other pigs don't have any changes even as seniors. They don't go grey from aging like people do.
