So I’ve just spent the last 7 hours washing everything and cleaning everything with F10.

I don’t need a vet to confirm that Banner has ringworm - the fact that he has shared it with me is enough of a confirmed diagnosis in my book! I have a small patch just below my wrist (see pic). I just feel itchy in general (but that could be a psychological response 😩).

I will give the vets a call tomorrow as obviously I’m worried about the spread to other piggies, the dog and my husband. Plus I suppose it can survive living in my house furnishings?

But any advice is really appreciated right now! 😫😫😫

I've only ever had it on myself and I found calamine lotion was the only thing that cooled the itch. I can't help with infection control or piggie advice though as I didn't have piggies at the time.

My first two pigs must have carried it because one scratched my son when he was young and he got a ringworm patch on his chest.... it was a proper 3cm ring shaped mark. Took him to doc who said "any pets?" so I said "yes, guinea-pigs" and that was that. He just said people usually catch it from pets and "these things are in the environment". Cream for son - patch went away in 2 weeks - no more trouble. Not knowing any different I didn't take piggies to vets but they didn't have symptoms, didn't scratch, didn't shed and just looked normal, yet it must have come from them because he got the patch exactly where the scratch mark was. It wasn't until I came on the forum that I saw really bad cases so I don't know if we were just unusually lucky of if they've been really unlucky. Fungal things are a bit weird.

If I was in your shoes I would also have been thinking blitz but I wouldn't be too worried about the furnishings. I'd maybe try and get some advice from the GP or even the vet. I'm just thinking that people who have athletes foot have to be careful about spreading it but they don't have to isolate like lepers and are allowed to sit on the same sofa as non-fungal people!

The dog I don't know... similarly, the husband. If you have a particularly sweaty one he might have to watch out - it thrives in damp places!

I am very sorry that you have joined the Club!

Just wash your bedding, towels and pullovers more often in the coming week and wash your hands regularly. I have used nizoral shampoo for a wash down of my whole body every third day during that period when I had ringworm myself to make sure that it couldn't settle anywhere else on my body.

Your experience is by no means unique. The 'don't touch your face' for Covid safety is basically 'don't touch any bare skin' for ringworm - but it tends to get you despite being as careful as you can. If you have it on a forearm, then it is likely fallen off when handling an infected piggy.

You can find more information and tips in our ringworm guide, which has got a chapter on humans, too: Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

F10 is good stuff for Ringworm... Wash everything, get rid of anything that can't be washed! This is why i only give them cardboard boxes as had to bin wooden items years ago - just to be on the safe side.....

wash your hands every time you touch a pig! Hope the vets can give you something and it isnt a bad case x

Thanks all. I shall continue the cleaning and will speak to both the vet and pharmacy tomorrow.
I do hope my run of terrible luck will end soon.... 🙈

Hang on in there. Luck is like London buses - you get none for a long time and then they all arrive at once. it tends to even out in the long run.

While ringworm is a total nuisance, it is at least a problem that is not life-threatening.

I caught ringworm from a plane seat, the plane had landed from Texas! You will need some anti fungal cream from the doctor, you should be able to do a phone consult and show him/her the ringworm. If left untreated it can get quite large and spread so best to get it sorted quickly x

Thank you. I’ll contact them today :) x

:( Oh No! What a nuisance. A friend of mine also caught ringworm from piggies she took in off a free-ads site. So sorry for you and him.

I’m not sure how Banner got it? None of the others have it. Unless the dog has brought something in. Suppose I’ll never know

Update: Banner’s hair is mostly grown back where his ringworm was and there are no more patches 😊 no one else has it and the little patch on my arm has gone. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Hoping we managed to get on top of it. Hours and hours of washing and cleaning, plus medication must have paid off !

Great news.
