Yellow clump in pee

There is a strange clump in my piggy’s pee puddle. I cleaned it yesterday and it happened again today. There was also a smooshed poop that was wet. Only changes in his diet have been more pellets and a switch from Timothy to orchard hay.
Here’s a picture of the dark clump.

Could it be bladder sludge? I saw you said you have increased his pellets. Pellets contain a lot of calcium so they should only get one tablespoon of pellets per pig per day. Drinking water also contains a lot of calcium. Are you filtering the drinking water or giving it straight from the tap? It’s recommended to filter drinking water especially if you live in a hard water area x

Maybe I’ll look into sludge, I also found I shouldn’t be feeding romaine lettuce every day?

Is the sludge something to be worried about?
Also do I have to weight him often?

Yes, sludge in the bladder can be very uncomfortable for piggies and in severe cases, the bladder may need flushing by a qualified vet and it can develop in to a bladder stone

Guinea pigs should be weighed weekly ideally at the same time within the feeding cycle, first thing in the morning before breakfast for example. Poorly piggies should be weighed daily. Changes in weight of more than 50g can be the sign of illness and requires an urgent vet appointment

My boys get romaine lettuce every day. I hope your piggy is ok.

He also keeps walking strangely with his anus sticking out. I’m not sure if that’s related or not. Also I get it from the tap, I will switch to filters and see if that helps.

Since this is the first day of signs showing I wait first and change the thinks like pellets, water, and veggies? To see if that helps.

The anus thing is something I have witnessed with my boys. I assume it's to do with scent marking as they have no health issues.

Please never increase pellet intake. Only ever feed one tablespoon per pig per day at most.
If you have increased pellet intake above that then reduce it straight away.
Changes to the diet takes weeks to have an effect on calcium levels in the body. So if he does have sludge then it would have been building up over some time.

Just Romain lettuce and carrot isn’t a balanced diet and doesn’t provide a good balance of nutrients.

Please don’t feed carrots - they are too high in sugar and shouldn’t be in the diet regularly. You can give one very small piece but no more than once a week as a treat.

Ok I see I will look at the nutrition guide; but do you have any tips or what veggies you feed your pigs daily. He is fine though he is currently having zoomies in my room.

Lettuce, cucumber, bell pepper and cilantro are fine to be given daily. They provide a good balance of nutrients without being too high in calcium

Do guinea pigs actually need baths monthly as well?

No. They never need bathing routinely. It’s bad for their skin.
Only ever bathe if there is a medical need to do so for example- an elderly piggy with arthritis isn’t keeping their back end clean; or during treatment for ringworm

No, but I give him a lot of attention each day and play with him regularly.

Sadly no amount of human interaction will ever be enough. There is no mutual communication between a human and a piggy and a single piggy will get lonely. It is essential and one of the animal welfare rights they are kept with another compatible companion.

Please do get either him a male friend (and ensure the cage is 180x60cm to provide the right amount of space for two boars) or have him neutered and then after the six week wait, get him A female friend

Oh I see, I had read if you played enough he would be okay, and he does seem happy. I have had him maybe four months. I will work on seeing if I can get him a companion probably a male so he doesn’t need to be nurtured. Is there any new things to worry about with two guinea pigs in the same cage.

And is this cage I already have big enough for two? Excuse the mess lol he was tuning around and bringing bedding out; is that good bedding btw?

Sadly that isn’t the case.

You just find a character compatible companion and introduce them properly on neutral territory. If they don’t like each other then they will fight so you can’t just get another piggy and expect them to be ok.
Ideally adopting a friend from a rescue centre who can help you to ensure compatibility is best.

What are the measurements of the cage?
It doesn’t look big enough for two but pictures are deceptive.

I would add that with the cage as it is, that there isn’t much hay nor enrichment in there. I would look to rectify that by adding a huge pile of hay on the floor of the cage for him to play with

Ok, I could add more hay in there I think the cage is decently big. I have a lot of his toys out the cage becuase he uses the bathroom everywhere

Also I got him at a pet store he was kept in a smaller glass cage alone for a while

What are the exact cage measurements? It had to be a certain size to meet requirements even for a single piggy but needs to be even bigger for two boars. Without knowing the measurements we cannot tell you whether the cage is even big enough for one piggy.

Yes they do go to the toilet everywhere but he still needs plenty of enrichment for when he is in his cage.

Pet shops aren’t known for keeping piggies appropriately so the fact he was kept alone in a glass tank isn’t surprising

I can fix the enrichment problem, below is the image of the exact dimensions

The cage is only just bordering on minimum (actually it’s just a little under minimum) for one piggy and definitely is far too small for two piggies. The cage comes in at less than 8 square feet but the smallest cage a single piggy should be kept in is 8 square feet.

You need a cage covering 12 square feet (the measurements for which are 180x60cm) for two boars. If you tried to keep two boars in that cage they are likely to fight due to space related issues

Man I spent 300$ on it 😅. Well how do I tell if he’s lonely or not
