I know a lot of people have had really bad experiences with pets at home, today I have a good one.

I went because I have bought a new cage for my hamster and in the unpacking a key part went missing, without it the cage would not go together so I went to metro centre Gateshead Pets at Home I explained what I was looking for and she gave me the part free of charge :)) (the cage was not bought from there) I was waiting in the queue to pay for something and a couple in front were buying a guinea pig I over heard the assistant giving them really good sound advice. So here's a first hurray to Gateshead Pets at Home.

That is really good. Am dying to know which cage you got?

I bought my daughters Guineas from Pets @ Home in Rotherham (tried RSPCA 1st but I asked them more questions than they asked me, and he couldn't tell me if they had any sows in) and the bloke who served me asked me every question under the sun, cage size, is it inside or out, or they going in together on their own or with other piggies, what are you feeding them etc he had a tick list and ticked each one off after he'd spoke about it.
The Chesterfield store is good too, very informative about care when I bought my niece a piggy and I'd recently bought a second hand indoor ferplast cage and a part was missing and they gave it to me for free.
I dislike the Drakehouse store in Sheffield they don't seem to care I overheard one assistant tell a girl & her mum that guinea pigs can live on their own just fine, the women said well I've heard that they need company so the assistant says no so long as they've got some toys 'which we sell' they're fine.
She even fetched a pig from the back (which are supposed to be in quarentine, even though they were going on the shop floor the day after) on to the shop floor for the girl to look at, the girl didn't want that one and decided on the 1st one she'd seen in the cage which the assistant then picked up- no hand washing in between.
And they miss sexed a guinea pig for my niece (my sister in law asked twice if she was sure it was a sow cos it looked like a boar and the assistant informed her that she was trained in sexing pigs so she knew what she was doing) they took it home put it with their other 6 girls, nearly 2 weeks later still unhappy my sister in law took it to a breeder who pronouced it to be a boy they went back to pets @ home in chesterfield and they were furious they gave her a voucher (ooh wow) and put him in the adoption bit (my niece already had 2 boars and couldn't take another) so they went back to Drakehouse and the assistant couldn't give a toss she was abrupt and sarky, my poor little niece was so upset but the assistant didn't care.

I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with them. There is nothing worse than having crap service from places like that as it really puts you off buying from them. x

The wokingham one is really good as well they all seem to know what they are talking about .

so I'm happy to shop in there .

But the reading one i have been in a few times when i go see my mum is where i got calleigh and daisy from not to sure at the moment we will see

When I brought Junior from my local P@H store (Stratford) at the end of September. I specifically asked for a boar, as I needed a friend for Branston. I was told a certain cage were boars, so I took ages choosing one as there were loads. Just before I was about to pay the man said I better just check hes a boy, turned out it was a girl. So he asked me to pick another so I did, he checked that one, turned out she was a girl too! He checked them all then said oh they must all be girls from this tank, choose one from the other tank. So I choose yet another piggie, he checked it and it turned out to be a girl, they were all girls too. So I said I wouldn't be buying one as a needed a boy. He said I'll look out the back (I didn't really think much of it at the time) and out he came with a boy, who was apparently 12 weeks old. It wasn't until I got home I realised no way was he 12weeks old he was so small, when my mum saw him she couldn't believe how small he was. Luckily, Branston's like a daddy to him and looks after him, so hes doing well but still very tiny.

At least the man who served me did check the sexes correctly but surely they should of known which tank was girls/boys :{

Am glad Pippin loves his new cage.

My P@H are quite good really as far as I know. They know us now as we are always in there getting stuff for our lot and most of our hamsters and some of our piggies are from the adoption centre.
