Hi my guinea pig has a very bad rash which he has been scratching, i asked advice on a previous post approx. 4 weeks ago about xeno 50-mini. My guinea is a little better after the second course of drops and i have read that a third coarse is needed, is this correct. I have also tried from day one to have him seen by a vet, no vets in my area (tameside) are not taking new patients on, I'm not happy. It was one of the vets that told me to get the xeno 50-mini, IMG_3606.webp

Please have your piggy seen by another vet soon, before you go ahead with treating at home. The issue with this is you don’t know exactly what is wrong. So you could be treating the wrong thing - making it worse or masking the real problem. Have a look at the link below and have a ring around tomorrow. Good luck.

I agree with the others. This is a bad case and your piggy absolutely needs to see a vet.
Please do keep ringing around and impress on them the seriousness of the case.

Hello. That does look very uncomfortable. Poor piggy. So the vet you spoke to thinks it’s mites or lice? Did they prescribe the Xeno? Yes ideally you should do three treatments. But some vets only do two 🤦🏻‍♀️. How many pipettes were you told to put on? Xeno 50 is tiny. I’m using Xeno 450 on my two. I’m treating my two pigs for mites at the moment. Their patch doesn’t look like that though. I think you need to go further afield for a vet. He really needs to be seen to clear this up. If it’s not looking better after 2 treatments I’d be thinking it might be something else (fungal?). Please see a vet. Let us know how you get on. Hope it clears up soon. 😃

I’m sorry but your piggy really needs to see a vet, where’s Tameside? This is quite bad in my eyes and will need probably some imverole baths.
can I also ask what bedding your guinea is on? That looks like straw?
Hi tameside is greater manchester, the bedding is dust free straw

Please don't use straw for guinea pigs - hay is a better choice. Straw is not edible and it is too spiky for piggies so does risk injuries.

Hi i doubled checked the instructions and for the weight it was 4 pipettes , again this morning I've tried 8 vets and no one will see him, I've also tried rspca animal hospital in Salford and they also will not look at him.

I’m so sorry you’re not having any luck in finding a vet to see him. Can you try further afield?

Oh your poor piggy! And you - thats not good being turned away by so many vets! Thats just not on - he really does need to be seen as soon as possible. even the RSPCA - thats disgusting! Hope you get in somewhere really soon ..

Gosh. Can’t believe vets are so full. Could you ask the receptionist if you could send in a photo and have a vet take a quick look?
