Ok today, looking out at the rain in the garden I was thinking what a shame the piggies cant get out on the grass. Then I got to thinking about my spare cage... Would this work to make a run?

Use the plastic base as like a "plant pot" (drill drainage holes in the bottom) add soil and seeds to grow grass in it. put the wire top back on and have an all weather grassy run area that we can use in the utility room when the weather isnt good enough for them to go out.

I *think* it would work BUT I'm probably missing some glaringly obvious design flaw!

What do you think?

good idea.. i use mine but havent drilled holes, I use the top as runs when need to seperate etc, and just pick grass to put in when i need to use the bottom.. how would you water the grass though? do you have somewhere you could put it for the water to drain? and in sunlight? I was thinking about getting a small plastic greenhouse and growing trays of grass and just putting those in, if that makes sense x

I was thinking I can pop it in the garden without the top on to get watered and sunlight when not in use!

I'm not sure really LOL might just grow some trays but just seemd like a nice idea to have somewhere green and soft underfoot for them to play when the weathers bad.

What sort of soil could be used? just regular bag of compost? is regular shop bought grass seeds ok? I saw a bag of cat grass on the b&q website

ahhh...of course! lol.. didnt think of that haha..

i presume both are fine, there is a thread somewhere about grass, I'm trying to grow some in a grow-bag by splitting it open, and sprinkling normal grass seeds. I will have to have a look at the cat grass..
