Was wondering if anyone has used these cubes from amazon to make a c&c cage? I'm not really happy with my ferplast 120 cage as it tapers in at the bottom and the actual floor space is smaller than the measurements it says and the piggies just don't look like they have much space. But since I just bought it last week and all the other "startup" costs, unfortunately I can't really buy a proper c&c cage right now. I was hoping this would be a good alternative? I'd also need to use a thick waterproof tablecloth to protect my carpet until I get some corex.

So I just want to know if it would be suitable and strong enough since it's not the proper wire grids? Thanks.

I think it will work fine.
I know a lot of members on here who use similar panels to make or extended their C&C.
Well done for wanting to offer them more space - they will love it.

Thanks, I just feel so disappointed with the Ferplast 120, cost me £50 just 1 week ago and feels such a waste now. Ugh. By the time I've got their beds in, litter/hay tray, fod bowls and toys, there's not much space left.

I think I'll just give that Amazon one a go. Hopefully its strong enough. I'll need to figure out something for the water bottles though.

Fab! I think these would be ideal - if anything, better than the grids. Thanks for posting this. It's a real bargain. I've just been thinking about re-designing my cage, and these will be perfect for extending their loft area.

No problem :) Yeah the price is pretty good. I noticed someone in the Amazon reviews had also used it as a piggy cage (but didn't say much about it which is why I asked on here). I was just searching Amazon for cube storage and found it! I've just ordered it, will be here tomorrow.

I feel your pain with buying a 'less than ideal' cage first time around.
I thought my piggies were going to live outside, so bought a super deluxe wooden hutch with thermal cover etc, and they used it (inside) for less than 6 weeks.

I bought a 120 cage first when Spike and Peanut were babies, by the time they were 6 months it was obviously too small so I bought a 160. When I got Willow and Bracken I bought C&C grids. The grids are so flexible the cage has been changed 3 times so far and if I had more space would be enlarged again! The 120 is not entirely wasted the base is used for storage under my bed. I have used it in the shed as a quick safe haven for S & P when we had workmen in the house making a lot of noise. Hopefully I'll never need it but it's also there as a just in case hospital or seperation cage.

I have some of those grids. I like them but definately prefer the grids. The grids are much sturdier and look nicer imo.

I used the solid ones at the back and sides of the cage

Yeah I do like the look of the grid ones. Maybe eventually I'll start switching them out for the grids but for now, I just really want to get them out of the Ferplast 120 and give them more space.

I feel your pain. The amount of money I've spent on housing so far is crazy and it's not ending any time soon..

I started off with a 140 x 70 for my 3 girls but then had to buy a cage quick when I realised Eva was pregnant. I got a Ferplast 120 as it was meant just for any baby boars that would need removing at 3 weeks. Now because Edna wasn't getting on with Eva and her babies, i have Edna and Eileen in the 120 and it looks so small. I'm letting them out for floor time most of the day now because the cage just seems tiny.

I'm now looking at rearranging my living room so I can build a big C&C cage and hopefully have all 6 living together, in the future.

I feel like the next step will be me sleeping on the couch and Finn and Oreo having my bedroom lol

I've got a decent sized empty corner in my living room, so going to build the c&c in that corner so should hopefully be a good size.

I actually considered that today! I don't sleep much, usually just a couple of hours a night so I thought I could just make my bedroom a piggy room and nap on the couch but my mum was over today and she talked me out of it :lol!:

I feel your pain too, I have a 140x70 ferplast type cage and I find even two hideys and a bowl of hay takes up a ridiculous amount of room but space is a issue in this house but I would love a c&c cage for them, they don't seem to care though and still have fun chasing each other and popcorning all over the place.

I think a LOT of us made a similar mistake with cages, I know our first pig cage was less than ideal but was the largest the pet stores sold for them. which was €90 in the trash...and I only managed to resell it for €15 or €20! . So long ago I can't remember the exact resell price. I had difficulty sourcing c&c locally but ended up getting from a UK site that ships everywhere.

With the rats we went as big as possible right from the start to eliminate any cage repurchasing needs .

I second the idea of using your grids coupled with the cage out already have.

So my cubes arrived today and I've put the cage up. I'm quite happy with it. They've got so much more space! Finn, who's normally quiet and calm has been popcorning like crazy, my son can't stop laughing at him! I've still got 6 squares left too! I've still to get corex or something to use as a base but wanted to get them in right away to give them space.

The bit up the back (with the blue blanket on top) is the top of their ferplast cage to give them a sort of enclosed bit (and also because I've nowhere to store a large cage!)

looking good. Next week you'll want a loft. The following week you'll want to make it a different shape, then the next week, bigger. Then you'll want more piggies. Welcome to the world of the Guinea pig slave.

Looks great and look at all the extra room they have now you have combined the cage ideas! Just need a good base and your set. You could probably get away with some tarpaulin base layer with an absorbent layer of material under the fleece if you want a cheap meanwhile that might be laying around your home.
