I have to female gunieas they are now 2yrs old and have always got on well the odd bite etc but nothing bad. For the last few days i have to keep pulling one of my guniea pig of the others back each time i put shoes in the cage she will run rubbing he bottom on gound making a rumbling noise then pounce on socks the other pig socks tries to run she does not do anything to get her away I'm not sure what to do? i have kept taking them both out the cage at different times to give them both space alone but as soon as their both back in cage shoes will start again with the rumbling etc she always jumps on her from behind to. Has anyone got any ideas what i can do? i have put them in seperate cages tonghit but still next to each other. Thanks Carla

If they're not ripping chunks out of each other maybe you should let them figure out who's the dominant one? Having said that I'm no expert, it's a long time since I've had a pair of sows ( and the ones I had were mother and daughter so that wasn't really an issue anyway ) but with boars I try not to worry until they're doing some major teeth nashing and the fur's about to fly.

I have a group of 5 sows and a couple of months ago one turned on all the others.... I sectioned off part of their C&C cage so she could still see them and it all calmed down. After a few hours she was allowed back in with them.... it all kicked off on and off for a couple of weeks but theyve been fine since.
So I agree with guineagurl that it may pass .... hope so

Hopefully it is a brief blip in the hormone levels and her seasons are particularly strong at the moment. If Shoes continues to be aggressive then a vet trip to see if there are ovarian cysts brewing may be worthwhile. They can cause a surge in hormones and lead to more dominant behaviour - think permanent PMS.

Often things will settle down in a few weeks, but there are treatments available should she need them - hormone injections to shrink the cysts, aspiration of the cysts to control them or even surgery to remove.
