Lez

theyve been together 2 days now, and I'm concerned that things arent settling at all. there is no fighting at all, or biting etc, but merlin is proving to be a very big bully :-\ they do have their nice moments where they cuddle together, but its usually followed by merlin throwing another strop at heath :'(

he seems to be humping and climbing on heath every few minutes, or sometimes they will be fine for a while, then he will insist on chasing poor heath for half an hour.
although they have 2 food bowls he is stroppy with food, and hates when heath is near me :-\

I'm going to carefully watch them a few more days, and if it doesnt settle poor heath will have to be taken out as I'm really worried the bullying is stressing him.

if they do seperate again, heath will have to leave me as most of you know, and i will be so gutted to see him leave as he is such a sweet timid little piggy, and doesnt fight back to merlin at all.

I'm beginning to worry that merlin may be too dominant to pair with a boar, as he seems to be even worse than bob! which means ill have to wait til he is old enough then consider neutering :'(

oh no! After all that! I was so hoping they would be ok. If they're not actually fighting it might still settle down?

Fingers crossed - Heath's so lovely! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I'm going to leave it a little bit longer because theres no fighting, and hope it improves. id only seperate them if there was no improvement, and give them a chance.

both boys have spent most, if not all of their life with no other form of piggy contact so i am hoping this is why merlin is being so wierd. his personality seems to have completely switched since he went in with heath :-\

I found with mine that giving them plenty of distractions helped - lots of hay, stuff to chew etc. Hopefully they are just sorting out the pecking order! :)

they have plenty of everything, 2 beds, 2 tunnels, 2 food bowls, loads of grass and hay theyres not really a lot more i can do for them :'(

i gues ill just have to wait and see

if it doesnt work out then looks like merlin will be having the snip when he is old enough :(

Minty is a bit like that with Benjamin at the moment and he was like it with Garry when they first arrived. He's always been top pig so I think he's establishing that with Benjamin too. Although Benjamin tried to stand his ground at the beginning, they've settled down now. I just hear the odd bit of rough and tumble from them but it is early days and I guess it's natural piggy behaviour.

Minty stopped hastling Garry so much when he'd got bored of trying. Garry reacted in the same way you say Heath is - he did absolutely nothing! He's recently started telling Minty where to go, just by nudging him. I think he feels he can do that now as he's gained confidence. Perhaps Heath will do that over time?

Good luck!

I hope they sort it out, but some boar pairings are not meant to be. As you said, give it a while longer :smitten:

How about a large C&C, our pair were squabbling but not fightying, since we've put them in a huge C&C it's helped a lot. Lots of hidey places as well can help apparently, again if you have room, a C&C is a good bet for something like that.

Awww lez I have my fingers crossed for you, heath and merlin. I hope its just a blip and it will all calm down I think this could be a normal part of them bonding lets hope so anyway O0 O0

It's only been a couple of days, they may settle down.
Brian and Harrison kept trying to mount each other and so I split them up, now Brian is with Mr Bumble (who rumbles all the time but nothing else) and poor Harrison is alone until he he is older then we will try to bond him with a baby, I now wish I had kept them together longer and tried to ignore the mounting as Harrison gets so excited when he sees me or Kyle and will wheek at us all the time, I wish he had a friend.
Honkey rumbles at Mervyn a lot and I ignore it because nothing else happens.
If there is not blood then leave them together and hopefully the mounting will stop, soon.
Fingers crossed.

I hope it works out for you love, i know how much you want it to be just right for them both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
We'll keep our paws crossed :) :) :) :) :) :)

well it looks like heath isnt taking all the s*** from merlin anymore. he has kicked merlin out of the main bed area and wont let him back in!

they seem a little bit calmer than they were earlier on, i think heath really needed to fight back, cos merlin was pretty much just walking all over him. theyre still squabbling though. they are being monitored very closely

;D ;D sorry i shouldnt laugh but good on Heath :smitten: lets hope it starts improving ;)

merlins just sat next to the bed area looking at me as if to say "look what hes doing to me mummy!" i told him it serves him right for being a bully ;D

Sounds like they might get on an even keel...Benjamin was giving as good as he got to Minty, or at least trying to. They spent the first day chirruping, rumbling and doing that noise that Bob does! Yesterday was good and they're OK today. Still the odd retaliation to the other if they don't like something, but nothing more than a run into the house and then a squeak from one of them. I'm sure that will settle.

Hopefully now Heath is fighting back, Merlin will see he's not a pushover!

its looking more and more like they may end up being seperated.

things have kicked up a notch today, theres not a lot of teeth chattering. and heath spends a lot of his time getting away from, or hiding from merlin :-\ :'( and merlin just wont give up :(

Sorry to hear things aren't going to well with bonding Lez. If they haven't fought then for now just see how they go. I had all this with Pudsey, Eccles in the end did stand up for himself and things settled down.

I know it's a worry and we are maybe quick to seperate but I would only remove if blood is drawn. Do you have enough grids to make another c&c? It could be they just need more space. I do hope it all dies down, would be such a shame to give up heath.

Good luck!

Louise

i dont have the space for a second c+c. they have moved into a nero 4 though. they are still in together, but I'm so worried about heath as he seems so scared of merlin all the time. i got him out a min ago and gave him a check over, there are no bites etc, just a snapped claw I'm guessing he snapped it getting away from merlin. when he is out he is such a sweet boy and smiles at us all the time, but when he is in with merlin he looks so scared and has now taken to hiding in the pigloo all the time :-\
