I am sorting out our pigs winter home, which will be a C&C construction in my garage, hopefully just under 3x5 grids.
My concern is I am condiering fleece as floor covering for part of the cage but am worried about the pigs nibbling it.
we had them on the living room floor last week on a picnic blanket for the evening and they were forever nibbling little holes, and I am worried about any harm they might do themselves from ingesting man made fibres.
What's other peolpes experience of pigs chewing fleece of other fabrics? any bad experiences?

thanks Rob

Mine never chew their fleece. One tries to pull the threads out the towels below the fleece but he never eats it.

My girls do chew their fleece, I have tried everything to stop them, giving them lots of hay, sticks to chew but sometimes they just do it. I remember someone saying that they won't be harmed if they chew the fleece.

I thought my piggies were chewing their blankets, they have faux sheepskin cut to size but on closer inspection, noticed they were just nuzzling it with their noses mallethead Quite cute to see them doing this :(|)
Think as long as there are no threads or blatant holes, they're probably inquisitive and having a good sniffle so would just keep an eye on the condition of the fleeces to be safe.

Mine chew everything, even newspaper, but they have never chewed their fleece yet.

I do see mine chewing the fleece from time to time. It is not really chewing but more pulling the fibres out. In five years of bedding guinea pigs on fleece it has never been a problem for me and I have never read and reports of guinea pigs being damaged by fleece on the internet.
