I know Cali will be well cared for by a person experienced with guinea pigs, but I read a terrifying story on here that said a pig got his teeth stuck on a wire hay rack and his owner found him dead! I'm so worried about that happening to Cali at the rescue! Should I bring my own hay rack? The one I use is above.

Should I bring my own hay rack or ask the rescue what hay racks they use? Is my hay rack safe?

I'd ask what hay racks they use. I used to use those thin green ones you'd get from P@H or other before using a curved grid and then eventually a hay tray and newspaper on the floor. Yours looks fairly good, only corners of mine would be head trapping but I can't tell how small or big the holes are. If you're think you're going to be fretting over it while on holiday, you could ask them to use a hay tray?

Ask the rescue what they use first and if you aren't happy then ask if you can bring the one the pigs are used to

See if you can have a visit and discuss.

I've only ever used boarding once and I went to visit first. I wasn't keen on the cages they had so I asked if they could have one of the rabbit cages instead.

When I got back the lady said she was going to offer the rabbit cages to guinea pig owners again as she'd spent loads of time watching my two running around and standing up wheeking for food in there.

The holes are probably about 10 cm x 10 cm. Cali usually stands up on her hind legs, puts her front paws on the top edge, and eats hay from there.
