So my girl has lost weight over the past week which I posted a thread about, today she’s down again 7g but I’m noticing she’s picking up food then dropping it. She picked her pellets up then dropped them, then I gave her some lettuce and pepper and she gobbled the lettuce but chewed the pepper and spat bits out. I took her to the vet yesterday as I was worried something was wrong with her back teeth but they said everything looks fine, she’s eating cucumber and everything she’s just picking pepper up and spitting it out. Is she just being picky? Worried about her weight loss

Side note- she also ate some baby corn fine so I’m really not sure, poos seem normal and she’s her normal self chatting and wheeking and her front teeth are normal

Hi!

All you can do at this stage is monitor the situation. Please cut any veg into fine strips.

The daily weight swing is about 30-40g; the difference between a full and an empty bladder alone is 10g.

Sorry to learn you are concerned about your girl, My understanding is that a piggies weight can vary daily of up to around 25-40g depending on whether or not they have just eaten and how much poo and wee are in their system. Hopefully someone will be along soon to give you advice. It may be helpful to know how much weight loss there has been over the week period and whether you’re weighing at the same time of day. Good luck

Okay thank you, hopefully it’s just a one off but the vet said her back teeth are fine so I’m not sure

Is there any food in particular I should give to help her regain weight? Or just feed as normal. I give her a lettuce leaf and she eats that whole just not peppers

Peppers are obviously too painful. See if cutting them into thin, short strips will do the trick. However, if you have access to fresh grass and can buy some fresh herbs, you will provide the necessary vitamin C in more easily edible form and can leave out the peppers altogether.

Is corriander okay? Do I need to take her to the vet again or will she be ok. The vet said back teeth were okay and she is an exotic vet but I don’t know! Still a new piggie mum

Coriander is perfect.

The loss of 7g over 24 hours is not a reason to take her to the vet. Keep on weighing her and, if you notice a significant downward trend, that would be the time to have her seen again.

If you notice a trend but you are not sure if it is significant, post the details on here and someone knowledgeable will tell you what they think.

All is well today she ate all her food, but I’m noticing she’s picking up pellets and dropping them and like nodding her head to eat them, is this just a funny way of eating?
