Hello all... Thanks once again for all your really useful advice. Thought I would post an udate. Our Piggies (Leo and the one who can not be named (pictured) lol - we can't decide lol) are eating HURRAY! Not just the carrots we give them but their dry food too. They are becoming a little more adventurous and they are venturing out. We leave them little trails of their favourite carrots to get them to explore their new home. They do come out of their bedroom when we are sat down but any loud noises and they are off again! lol... It will take time though i suppose but we are ABSOLUTELY loving watching them and listening to them talking away to each other, we are SO glad we got 2 *** we are getting to see there personalities. They are pooping for England which is good and they look healthy from the pictures I have compared them to online. Things are looking up! When do you all think we should get them out for some lap time? I was thinking Thursday. We will be cleaning their cage out on a Thursday and a Monday so we have left them since we got them on Saturday so they can get used to their home so their first clean will be this Thursday... shall we leave them in untill then? Thanks again for all your great advice!

Yay! I'm really pleased that they are settling down.

I've had my guinea pigs since December and often if I so much as scratch my nose they will bolt for the hills. :)) They take no notice of the hamster though when she's zooming round in her ball and bumping into their cage. rolleyes. Guinea pigs are just naturally wary creatures but they should calm down a bit in time.

I only waited 24 hours until I handled my girls. A little and often seems to be agood way to go at first. Have treats to hand. Parsley is a good favourite to start with and a couple of sprigs will ease them into it as it's a new food. You may only manage a few minutes at first but they will learn that you mean them no harm and hopefully will quite enjoy being cuddled/ stroked.

I think the most stressful part is picking a guinea pig up when you're not used to it. They're quick little blighters and sneaky. :(|) You'll probably have to corner them- pick them up with one hand under the bottom and the other round the shoulders. I use a cozy to herd my girls into and then pick them up as I find it's less stressful on all of us, then they can hide in it whilst sitting on my lap if they want to. Pollie (threelittlepigs) on the forum makes them if you're interested- she has a thread in the fundraising section and this is her website.

Hope your first cuddle session goes well. x

p.s. the pig who cannot be named is gorgeous.

Thank you so much for this... we will let you know how we get on. I'm really looking forward to thursday, we are dying to give them a kiss and a cuddle. We were thinking about putting them in the bath whilst we clean out the cage... EMPTY of course lol.. what do you think?

He is a little beauty... We are led to believe they come from a breeder who shows piggies... I have NO IDEA of breeds etc but he is gorgeous.. Leo is beautiful too but VERY camera shy! He's all white with red eyes.

The bath should be fine but put in a towel or something so they have grip. Mine have to sit on a fleece in a laundry basket while I change their cage. They look very indignant. :(|)
