Hi, I got our piggies on Monday and they seem to be doing ok so far but I'm worried they don't have enough room. I have them in an indoor run most of the day, they don't like me yet so trying not to push to much. Do you think for now tho this is enough space? Going to get a bigger cage for nighttime in a couple of weeks and was thinking if I add another run to my existing one that should hopefully be big enough?

Ermm the recommendation (minimum) is at the link below and there's another link with cage sizes... The size you have them in is too small I'm afraid :(

http://www.rspca-online.co.uk/guineas/needtoknow/accommodation/

http://www.guineapigcages.com/

They need room to exercise and so they aren't under each others feet, it can cause problems between guinea's.

Are you able to get a cage with the minimum recommendations or maybe something bigger? The more room they have, the better.

Is that the floor space dimensions or the size of each run panel? It says 8 foot square so I am guessing these are the dimensions of the panels, not the floor space. :) Have you got the run set up? Can you measure the floor space for us please?
Thanks :)
I was thinking crikey, that is small for hamster cage!

Good point Critter, that would probably make it bigger enough? X

8 foot square complies with the RSPCA minimal recommendation for a guinea pig cage for a couple of guinea pigs. I assume that you are talking about a 6 panel run?

Yes sorry I just got that off the web page. I am sensible usually I promise! It is an Ellie bo run, its a 6 panel hexaganol run and it says that the floor space is 8 square foot. This is the day time then I put them in a cage overnight which is to small at 100cm but I am getting at least a 120 cm in the next couple of weeks

It's a nice set-up in your avatar picture :)
Some people use runs as permanent cages.... perhaps they would like this as their main home? If you look at C&C cages, for example, they are open-topped mainly and are really pens, not cages. They are similar to your run, just made from a different type of grid. They can be placed in a cage at night, but really there's no need. I was just thinking..... it may save you money ;)
The other beauty of a panel-pen is that you can shape it how you like and change it, add to it etc, if you ever wish to do so (just place some vinyl down for the floor, or a Correx board as the floor it comes with would no longer fit).
That literally is a suggestion, and no implication that your first idea is unsuitable. I also have a 120cm cage for mine, which I use when necessary, but I found that having a home-built wire-mesh cage I could make alterations when ever I liked, and I have made several over the past couple of years! :)
Grid-runs/pens have so much potential.... :)

I do like that idea because they do seem happy in there. I'm hoping they will get used to me soon and I will be able to hold them and give them lap time etc. My kids are desperate to be able to cuddle them but i won't let them near yet

Aw... the temptation! :)
They'll probably tame quicker in a pen like that than in a cage. Once they get used to the fact that they live in an open-topped environment without anything bad happening to them they eventually start to relax more.... if that makes sense?

Managed to get my pics to load. The first one is the nighttime cage. The second is my babies and the third is them in the daytime run

That's a nice cage, even though it is a bit too small. How about attaching the run to the cage, and having the cage door permanently open to the run?
That could be a nice sleeping and hay area perhaps, and the run could be what ever you want it to be, with their tunnels and toys?
