Can people please post about how difficult it is to blimmin catch guinea pigs? :))

I know some piggies can just be funny about being caught but i do know mine are still scared of being touched so me catching them is making me feel slightly bad...

Silly i know and i do want them to get used to being held its just the scrabbling and look of horror on them when i do it!rolleyes

I sort of heard mine into a corner of the hutch or run & scoop them up It used to be very easy when they were tiny but as they are now quite big its getting difficult as they can really shift when they want to. Smudge is quite easy cos he sort of jumps up into my arms (he probably thinks i've got a treat for him) Coco now shes a proper little madam she leads me a merry dance sometimes she has been known to jump over my hands when I've got her in the corner.my son Jonathan often have a game of catch the guinea., especialy if i've let them loose on the patio as there are 3 wheelie bins & numerous pots for them to hide behind. They used to hide under the wheelie bins but they're both too fat to do that now!

I tend to block part of the hutch so the area is not as big, herd them into a corner and scoop them up.

Some of my piggies just hate being picked up and run for dear life ... others are just sitting still and let you pick them up with ease.

Teddy jumps into my arms when I open the hutch - he just loves the cuddles - but he is an exceptional personality.
All the others are more likely to lead me on a wild goose chase! :))
And NO, it doesn't get better with time. Mine are mostly two years old and they still run for cover when the hand reaches into the hutch - unless I got food, of course!

I don't have any major issues. Becuase of the rountine I follow they know whats coming. For example when I get them in from the run they know its fresh hey and veg time as thats the way I do it every day so don't have a problem with it really.

My youngest is still a bit skittish but he is only 9 or so weeks old so has plenty of time to calm.

Franklin is a bit of a nightmare right now as he has had to have lots of meds and stuff recently so thinks I am always going to stick meds in his mouth or tend to his wounds. Now the meds have stopped and wounds are healed he is getting better again.

I use to find putting an empty igloo in the run was good as they would run in to it and then I could pick it up and transfer back to the hutch but that was when I was young and a bit nervous of them. Did work well though.

Yeah i now corner them and go in for the kill...:))

I am finding that if i dont hesitate and just get on in there but was anyone worried at first of how hard to actually hold them?!
Its fine now as you get used to it but when yours are like mine and quite muscly under all that chubb its like trying to hold a pocket rocket!
