I recently ran out of Auboise and my supplier was waiting on their delivery. So having been a bit desperate I grabbed a bag of loose shavings hoping for them to cover the two hutches, which it does - just.

However, it barely lasted the week. Thought this may be useful for those considering any change.

Woodingshaving Pro's
Easy to handle (get out of bag)
Easy to remove
Not to sticky for veggies.

Woodshaving Con's
More expensive long term
Doesn't soak up as well as alternative
Doesn't deal with odour
Tends to get stuck into long haired piggies.

Auboise Pro's
Cost effective £12 for 20kg bale (last very long time)
Handles odour vey well
Handles fluid soaking very well
Poo's tend to drop to the bottom of the bedding

Auboise Con's
20kg bag can be awkward to handle
veggies can stick to the bedding - can't spread the food on the floor (use a bowl)
Not available in all shops (specialist, online or Kennelgate)

That's a good list.
I love Aubiose - but agree with your cons list.

I get my Aubiose from a local pet supplies for just over a tenner ( I think I paid £10.20 last time) . There's no way I could pick the bale up myself - but the man at the pet supplies puts it in the boot of my car . I divide it into smaller bags before I store it. I also agree to tends to stick to food ( and boar bits! ) . I don't use it in the whole hutch . I mostly use it in their hay trays. The way I prevent it sticking to food is, I have an area where I put a fleece liner. I put their food on the fleece.

I had to revert to shavings temporarily this month as there was a large fire at the snowflake plant. I was never as happy as when my petshop phoned me up to say they had 2 bales of snowflake. The piggies are as happy as pigs in snowflake! :))
