Hi there, just asking for a bit of advice. My guinea pigshitch is outside, and recently in the wet weather, inside their hutch there has been loads of woodlice & slugs. Just wondering wether this is bad for the guinea pigs, or is there a way to stop this. Thanks in advice

Not sure about the safety. I've had one or two slugs in my hutch this year too, last one was a huge fat thing too and made me feel sick. If the hutch is off the ground you could use copper tape round the bottom to stop them getting up to the living area

The pigs don't seem to mind but everyday, there's seems to be more and more , there was like 6 in the hutch tonight. I might try the copper tape. I've never had a problem with them until recently

Have to say mine have been outside for several years now and this is the first year I have had more than one. Think last year I might have had one inside. Like you have found my piggies don't seem bothered about sharing their hutch but I absolutely cannot stand slugs at all

My hubby goes out in the garden at night armed with a torch, salt and a shovel! He lifts any he sees and sticks them down an outside drain along with some salt to kill them. We also put trails of salt beneath edges of the Piggy Palace - only in areas that piggies can't access! Good luck with getting rid of them! His nightly forays certainly diminish the amount in garden now.

Thanks for the advice, the piggies hutch is on legs elavated, so I might try some salt around the legs that's touch the floor.

Has anybody had any woodlice in the hutch? The weather has been bad but their hutch seems to be streaming with woodlice at the minute ?

Not has woodlice but earwigs everywhere! Every time I open one of their outside hatches the little devils drop off the door! I don't really mind them as my father told me they were very good parents! This was after returning from a holiday when I was little, having tickle feet in bed, drawing back the covers to find a nest of them!
