Hi. I posted a few months ago about giving my 2 guinea pigs unlimited access to apple and hazel twigs and was advised that unlimited access probably wasn't advisable. But they are obviously desperate to chew on things and are destroying the partition between the 2 areas in their hutch. Tonight I gave them a small apple branch and they destroyed it! So how often can I give them a apple/hazel twig to eat - is every other day too much? I kind of think it can't be good for their stomachs to eat wood but of course it's good for their teeth!

I’m not sure how often they can have apple twigs. Could you perhaps put some cardboard boxes in there? Or even carrot cottages?

I think like everything moderation is the key! I don’t know the definitive answer on whether every other day is too much, mine get apple twigs but it’s not a regular thing. @teddymouse may be able to help here

Obviously hay and grass is the very best thing for their teeth but some do like chewing on other things (chewing wooden items/houses etc doesn’t do anything for their molars) but if your piggies are chewers, then I’d definitely recommend carrot cottages or hay cubes!

Mine have twigs to chew on all the time, they like to gnaw on wood it helps to keep their consent growing teeth in good condition .
