I am unable to purchase wood shavings from P@H because they have no stock due to recall. I have been on the Fetch website and their Pillow wad wood shavings are made from Norwegian spruce pine and other soft woods, are they suitable and safe for Guinea pigs? Thank you.

Sorry I can’t answer you there. But you could look on amazon?

Pine/softwood beddings should not be used as the phenols can cause respiratory infections.

Do you have access to aspen bedding? It can often be found in the reptile aisle and is safe for piggies, too.

Otherwise, honestly, some old towels and a cheap fleece blanket can work temporarily.

Thank you for your replies. I will look at both Fitch paper and Aspen bedding, if Abigail and Rosie like it better I will definitely switch to one of these.

If you know of a horse feed/ agricultural merchant you can get Aubiose, which is a good bedding. You could go on their website to see if there are stockists near you.

Thank you, I have been thinking of changing from wood shavings for a while but not sure I want to go with fleece, it definitely needs to be dust free as Abigail has had a respiratory problem in the past.

Do you get your Fitch paper bedding from Fitch First? and do you just put it on top of newspaper as you would shavings then hay on top? Thank you
Yes from Fitch First or from them via Amazon. It's very absorbent so it's ok to lay down without putting it on newspaper but I did put it on newspaper to make clean up easier. Then yes add hay. I use fleece at the moment but use fitch if away for a few days so pet sitter doesn't need to clean out the cage.

Thank you. That's really helpful, I am going to order some this evening.

If you’re stuck in the future, maybe try a local garden centre or farm shop? Both of mine have shavings (I was surprised to find P@H had none too!)
