Wood shavings

Are wood shavings ok if they smell ‘piney’ and are slightly damp? My partner said it means they are fresh but I am still concerned

If they 'smell piney' they are very fresh but they shouldn't be damp. Use them but cover it with Hay or newspaper while there dry.
