Are wood shaving really worth buying? I know its biodegradable and natural for the environment, absorbs a lot- not to mention masks bad odors, But £7 pounds for one large bale? They used to be £3 pounds and I'd get five for fifteen pounds and that'd usually last a month or two. Now the youngest guinea piggie tends to eat the shavings a loves to bury his hay in them. And whenever the oldest popcorns, he sends shaving flying onto the floor....lol.
Should I stick with fleece or what/ (I found the cage liners to expensive so I brought some fleece blankets, lined and sewed them together with mattress protectors).

It's a good idea to use fleece with mattress protector😀 if it's more feasible for u then go for it🐅

I use wood shavings, but I put newspaper underneath and that has always worked well. However, I wouldn’t buy the large pack from pets at home as (in a previous post of mine) I ordered some from there and found large chunks of wood, chocolate bar wrapper and rubber in it :/ Needless to say I complained and got a refund, but just a heads up

What bedding you use is very much down to personal choice. I stopped using woodshavings as they were so dusty and messy, I use fleece in part of the cage and newspaper topped with hay in the rest.

Bedding Guide

I use wood shavings in my c&c cage. Used to use newspaper underneath but when I spot clean it’s obviously still wet underneath on the newspaper so now I don’t use the newspaper. I just scoop out the wet bits and add fresh shavings. I change their bedding/hay area daily. My piggies are long haired so I like to keep it dry and clean, I think I clean more often than others though.
My husband wasn’t keen on fleece but to be honest I think it would probably be easier!
I buy my shavings in bulk from a farming store, £8.49 for 23kg.

I had to stop using woodshavings as one of my little piggies started to get dry skin on her paw, so much i had to gently try and cut it off and bought some balm online to help it heal. After using fleece bedding since July, piggy's foot has completely healed!
I still use some wood shavings in a cat litter tray and use this as a potty/kitchen to try keep the poop and hay off the fleece (makes it easier when cleaning)!

I use wood shavings having tried fleece.
Although the fleece is lovely I couldn’t cope with the laundry and so reverted to wood shavings.
Yes - they are more expensive but in the end we all go with what works best for us.

I was looking at fleeces and found them quite expensive and I probably couldn’t deal with the end less washing lol

For years I have been using Megazorb but found it very dusty, and together with the grey colour, it began it get on my nerves - even when my piggies were all cleaned out (daily) - it all looked very drab.

I started using Pillow Wad woodshavings which I have bought online in 3.6kg bags. I am very pleased with it as it is very soft, absorbent and not like woodshavings you can buy locally. I am currently looking at 20kg bags online and calculating the cost of the smaller bags v delivery charges.

I can't use woodshavings because my two pigs had uri's as pups so got told not to let them live on it. Have you heard of aubious? Hemp bedding, similar to woodshavings but cheaper and almost dust free. If you can find it that is

I have heard of that. I think when I go through my wood shavings I will consider getting that as I have heard good things

I have heard good reviews about Aubiose but haven’t used it myself. It is meant to be dust-free, absorbent and fluffy and good for horse bedding.

The local supplier of my hay sells Aubiose and has little sample packets that you can feel. However, to me ... just my opinion from the sample - it feels a bit hard.

It might be worth doing a topic search as I know there are threads already on types of bedding.

I use the expanding paper bedding.

Do you use Aubiose #SkyPipDotBernie as I am tempted to give it a try?
