Has anybody done this? ive seen a videos on youtube of people using wood pellets instead of absorbent layers and everyone keeps saying that it helps control the smell more than towels or uhaul. And some people say they change the pellets every 3 weeks. thoughts?

I'm currently trialing pellets in their litter trays, underneath their hay. I'm not very happy with that, to be honest - they seem too hard and uncomfortable, even underneath the hay. Tomorrow, I'll be buying carefresh again as hay tray bedding.

I think the pellets wouldn't be comfortable even with fleece on top - they're so lumpy and hard. Besides, when wet, they break down into small sticky bits of wood, which I can't imagine being easy to remove from the fleece. I do agree they control the smell better than paper bedding.

In my experience, fleece works best with additional pads in the corners where they toilet. The smaller pads in high-traffic areas can be changed daily and the cage doesn't smell.

right thats what i have read about the small pads under heavy traffic areas. But i have two cages and they are pretty large size, i cant see myself changing those small pads daily. i would use like 100 a week if thats the case lol

Yes, I see why it's less than ideal. I know a lot of people on the forum are using puppy pads underneath the fleece and are very happy with them. I personally prefer reusable bedding, but they may be worth trying?

I have a 7x2 c&c cage with three piggies, and I have 5 small pads, changed daily. It makes 45 per week pads, which is indeed a lot when you say the number. However, I just pop them in the washer-dryer in the evening, and they're all done by the morning, dried and ready to use. For me at least, it's no trouble whatsoever. :)

yeah I would do the pads the only thing is that here in NYC most of us we do not have washer and dryers at home since most apartments are not allowed to. We have to go out and paid at the laundromat to do laundry and washing all those pads, plus fleece can be pretty pricey you know.

Recently i started using uhaul moving blanket under the fleece and i really love it! I just thought that they wood pellets i saw was such a great idea and cheap
