I wanted to put some wood pellets in my guinea pigs litter tray/kitchen area, I have had a look online but I was just wondering if anyone else used them and what make they buy? Something not too expensive but does the job :)

Although wood pellets are quite absorbant they are filled with a lot of pine scent which can irritate small animals. I used to keep mice and rats and know it can cause a lot of problems with them so i would be reluctant to use them for piggies.

When i got my rats their litter trays were filled with Wood pellets and i thought they were quite hard on their fest. The finacard people do something called papelit that is much softer so i use this instead .Very absorbent and low odour.Use finacard for piggt lotter trays

I don't use wood litter pellets but I know and recommend Tumblefresh. It is cheap and very absorbant. Also when the litter trays are fulls of poos and wees the litter tray doesn't smell!

I used to use Megazorb in my piggie's litter trays. It is cheap at under £10 for 85 litres. But due to its granular texture, it got kicked out of the trays a lot and the long-haired pigs swept it over the carpet. I was always sweeping it up. After a spell of using Profleece (and the resultant higher leccy bills!) , I have gone back to litter trays and am now trying Back2Nature paper pellets in them. The pellets are bigger and heavier than the Megazorb granules so should stay in the trays.

I use a small amount of wood pellets in my cages to help soak up pee so that it hopefully doesn't destroy the wood too much. I usually put down some newspaper first, then put a thin layer of wood pellets over the top, then cover them with a thick layer of sawdust so that it doesn't hurt my piggies feet when they walk around! The stuff I use is advertised for use in Cat litter trays, however the ingredients in it and with own testing I can't find anything harmful in it, they don't have particular smell either. Since it's usually buried under the sawdust my pigs don't get to it so they don't eat it. I can't remember the name of it, but I buy it in big 5 litre purple bags from B&M stores.
