As some of you are already aware i've been trying to bond my pair of boars, Pinkie and Bertie, for weeks ever since my eldest bore lost his housemate. I have today taken the advise of a few people on here and finally moved them in together - hopefully on a permenant basis.

They were in their play pen for a couple of hours earlier whilst i disinfected the cage and re-arranged the toys etc and apart from a little bit of rumbling and the occasionally mounting attempt all was quiet.

They then had their first ever bath! lol Which i'm not sure they were all that impressed with but i wanted to try and get them smelling alike, then it was into the new cage............ its about 2 hours ago since i put them in and they've been okay so far (touch wood)a bit of normal bickering and neither of them seemed to want the other one to have the hay but i'm hoping that will sort itself out. They've got 2 beds, 2 food bowls, 2 pigloo's and 2 water bottles plus lots of toys so i think i've done all i can to make them happy! I'm just hoping it will work out for them as i love to see them happy and playing :))

If I was going to have any major problems with them both being in the cage would they have started by now?

Well looks like i may have spoken too soon :(

They had been fine up until about 9.30pm when they started the domenence thing in a big way, lots of teeth chatter, Bertie constantly chasing and mounting Pinkie, this carried on for quite a while, they were both obviously tired because they'd lay down for a minute or two and then Bertie would be back bothering Pinkie again so off it all started yet again. In the end they were actually lunging at one another - theres been no blood drawn or any nips from what i can see but they seemed to be getting more and more grumpy with one another so i've had to seperate them again for tonight, i don't trust them whilst i'm asleep.

I'm quite depressed about it all now as i'm starting to think they'll never get on properly, it seemed to be all going so well too, they'd been in together for a good 6 hours or so when all this started :(

Ben did this to Dave - I've only witnessed it a couple of times and it was quite distressing to see! You've described it to a tee - the laying down bit in the middle makes you think it's over but no.... If there's no blood drawn, just see how they go and try them together again.

i wouldnt separate them unless blood is being drawn and there is major fighting. you are just delaying the process.

All piggies do this, sometimes more do it worse than others. You just have to be patient and i know its tempting to take them out, but really dont until like i mentioned above.

Mine still do this occasionally the rumbling and odd nipping and raising their heads and showing their teeth, but they soon get over it.

I will try again with them on Monday, cleaning all of the cage again and maybe even trying another bath for them both. I'm going away for the weekend so don't really want to put them together before then for someone else to deal with if they start again, plus i wouldn't settle not knowing what they were up to. I'm not giving up on pairing them just yet though, i'll keep trying.
