Hey guys
I wanted to know if the guinea pigs require a heater in the room in which they stays if the temperature is around 10-15 degrees at night time. Surely they have alot of fleece hideys and fleece mats but they always tend to stay away from the fleece items most of the time and I don't want them to catch cold

Guinea pigs need to be kept between 18 and 24 degrees ideally. Anything lower than 15 degrees is too cold for them.

15 degrees is the recommended minimum but if the piggies have the option to go in the fleeces and they are acclimatised to that temperature it should be ok I think, let's ask @Piggies&buns and @Betsy who have outdoor piggies- mine stay indoors and I have a naked furless skinny pig who needs the heating on to keep her at 18 degrees so mune never get cold really!

Exactly that's what I am confused about because if they feel cold they have the option of endless fleece hideys but they don't use them much so I m thinking for an option of heating the room but it might get too warm for them

I think it may depend on the piggy - one of mine flatly refuses to go into any fleecy items, I don’t think he likes the feel of them, therefore even if he was cold, he would still sit out and still not go into a fleecy item.

Yes my piggies are outside in a hutch within my shed, and I take huge efforts to keep their hutch warm enough.

Mine no longer live outside and are in the luxury of a insulated, but unheated garage that so far hasn't got below 10 degrees even when minus temperatures outside. When my lot were outside they had loads of hay, more loads of hay, more more loads of hay and more than that to snuggle down in. They had snugglesafes (1 each), fleecy snuggle tubes and fleecy snuggle sacks, a hutch that had an insulating cover on and a thermal cover on top of that and a blanket that went over the top of the hutch and down the front to keep the frost out.

It is very important that you have acclimatised your piggies properly before heaving them outside in the cold and damp. Do you have inside or outside piggies?

They live with me in my room and it's pretty warm even when the temperature out is 10-13 degrees because I don't let any cold wind come inside my room. Though the temperature here in my city never goes below 8-9°c at minimum.

Temperature fluctuations are problematic for piggies so you don’t want the temperature to be going constantly up and down. A steady, constant temperature is best, ideally a little warmer than the temperatures say your room is at.

It’s a little hard to tell from your picture how many hides you have etc, but putting in a few hideys, or even cardboard boxes, and filling them with lots of hay will provide somewhere warm for her to go and sit if she wants to have a bit more warmth

i have 4 hideys for 2 piggies in a cage ❤ 2 cardboard boxes one and 2 fleece houses and I have some fleece tunnels which are homemade . Their cage space is 5×4 feet for 2 guinea pigs ❤ I would definitely heat up the room a bit warmer now just on the safe side thank you😇

That looks a lovely comfortable warm space for them, maybe if you can keep your room heated to 15 degrees (with a thermostat on the heater so it doesnt get too warm) that would be good, but if the outside temp is never lower than 8-9 degrees I think they will be fine indoors- last night it was -1 in the UK, we definitely need heating here!

That certainly is true! it’s cold here at the moment! I’m outside every hour or two to go and check on my piggies to make sure the temperature is maintaining in their hutch (fortunately it is)
