for the last two winters our piggies have been inside due to all the snow. this cant happen now that we have six. instead the three cages all have a hutch cover, they live in a place well kept from th wind, they are on flleece at the moments, normally have hay in their egloo but because they have been recently changed to fleece they have a towel in their egloo. we may be getting to heat pads but that is just a maybe. i just want to get peopples opinions are whats best to keep them warm and if that is sufficient enough. thanks in advance

Hi,

Even though they are on fleece you can still use lots of hay in the bed compartment they will need this to keep them warm.

Also use an upturned box in the bedroom bit, with an arch cut out so they can get in, stuffed with hay and one of those fleece cozies, also you could use a snugglesafe under the cozy for extra warmth.

A cheap way to insulate the hutch is use greenhouse insulation it's like bubblewrap but much thicker and they sell it on ebay, it easily attaches to the hutch with drawing pins then put the hutch cover over the top:)

ALthough my piggies are indoors, I have heard such great things about snuggle safes. They stay warm for EVER apparently. I think they are really worth the investment as you only have to buy them once. :D

thanks so much for the replies,i will look int everything, i really apreciate it
what are snuggle safes? and fleece cosies, sorry probably sound quite stupid
sorry

Snuggle safe head pads. They are basically gel filled heat pads (you pop them in the microwave, put them in the secure fleece cover they come with, then pop them in the hutch for the piggies to cuddle into. :) )

Fleece coseys... hmmm... Things such as cuddle cups, cosey sacs, or triangle coseys.

If you do a quick forum search of "cosey" you will find loads of pictures and soon get the idea. :)

There is no such thing as a stupid question. Bettet to ask than never know! :)
