Just been thinking about winter & insulating the outdoor hutches. How do others give their piggies enough exercise if they live 100% outside- no shed or garage to put them in? Last year I only had 2 , who spent the winter free range in half the greenhouse with loads of insulation & warm places to sleep/ hide. This year we have 6 - a quartet of girls & 2 boys. The greenhouse door is too narrow to get bigger hutches through & I'm starting to panic that they won't get enough exercise- they have runs, but obviously only go in when weathers good .:help:

If your hutches are insulated, your guineas will be using their bodily heat to keep them warm so, it'll probably be too cold to use outdoor runs - even when the weather is reasonable. Do you have any way of measuring the inside temperature of the hutch?
Conversely, bringing them indoors for exercise would not be a good idea as indoors will be much warmer than their hutch.
How warm is your greenhouse? Could this be used as an exercise area - letting the guinea pigs take turns?

I will buy a thermometer for hutches so I can keep an eye on things, but yes hutches are insulated.the greenhouse is unheated but is very sheltered spot. Just wondering if I could use heavy duty bubble wrap to wrap a run with & use a clear tarp to go over top & round sides & then on the concrete patio base use that silver reflective insulation stuff with a layer of vetbed on top? :hmm:
