So I've just about recovered from Daisy's recent operation and now Winny has suddenly lost a considerable amount of hair... we saw vet Ellie today & she confirmed not a skin issue but defo hormone related 😒 she does seem to be experiencing very strong seasons...

No large cysts were felt... so we are going to watch, make notes & see how she is & save for the operation...

I've seen some bits about hormone treatment but if anyone has any first hand experience of this I would be keen to hear about it!

I’m sorry it’s from one to another. No experience but want to offer support anyway. Hopefully she won’t need an operation just yet.

I have seen a few members on here whose piggies had hormone injections. Discuss all the options with your vet.

I am so sorry to read about your poorly piggies. I hope Daisy is well on the road to recovery and although I have no experience of what Winny is going through I am sending you and her my very best wishes and healing vibes. xx

Poor you!

Hormonally active ovarian cysts are often small ones. the large ones in the reference pictures are usually the actually more non-hormonal fluid-filled ones that can grow very large especially later in life without ever causing the classic symptoms.

Since Simon Maddock prefers a spaying op to hormone treatment (and is very good with what he does), I do not have personal experience with hormone injections.
