Hi all

My pigs have been in my kitchen since October and we are moving them back outside next week.

My question is, we have a bluebell hideaway and if it’s windy it blows over! Is there anything we can do to stop this? I’m in rented property so cannot nail it to the fence

Is it on grass or concrete? You could fix it to the ground somehow

@Mitchy You need to speak to your landlord. Surely if they allow you to have pets then they're fine with a few holes in a fence?

If not, then you need to rethink the hutch. Can you move it out of the wind? Block it upright with something? Get a different hutch or a shed?

Ideally you would move it somewhere where it is protected from the wind, however if you have no other option you could try this.

Get several heavy paving slabs or sandbags (we use bags of cobblestones), and a large webbing strap with metal adjusters on the end (normally used for securing loads, so can be tightened with a ratcheting mechanism).
Google 'ratchet strap'
You want something like this:
Strap-It for all your straps and ratchets

Place the heavy slabs/stones on the ground at either end of the hutch (outside the hutch).
Wrap webbing around the heavy item, and then secure them to the ratchet strap.
Run the ratchet strap up and over the hutch and tighten at the top, so the whole hutch is held firmly in place.

Hope that helps.

ive the same hutch against a sturdy fence, mine has never tipped or blown over.maybe if you have any spare bricks, you could put them in the bottom of the hutch to add weight, and steps for the guinea pigs !

My hutch is right next to the fence. It has never blown over. Have you a fence or a wall you can put it up against?
