Can piggies eat these? I was walking my dog yesterday and saw a big willow tree. I've never fed it to my pigs before and have heard mixed reviews. Any idea's? I know you aren't supposed to feed it to piggies who are on meds.

Also, does anyone know what it's properties/benefits are?

They can have willow branches/twigs and I've fed them with leaves on before without problem. It should be given in moderation though.

Aspirin is made from the bark of willow trees

Willow does contain salicin, a precursor to aspirin but it's still okay to give them so long as you stick with goat, pussy or weeping willow. White willow has the highest concentration of salicin and should be avoided.

What an interesting thread! We have planted some willow to grow for our woodburning stove. I will have to check what variety of willow it is. We also have some raspberry bushes and apple trees. I give my piggies raspberry and apple leaves but plese don't tell my OH as he will go nuts if he finds out !

That's so funny. I take one of mine up the garden for the pear tree leaves. She eats them straight off the branches and loves them. Check out willow for burning as we also have a log burner and I seem to remember that willow holds lots of water and takes ages to dry out. We collect pallets from a company on an industrial estate that are more than happy to give them away rather than pay to get rid. Sorry, I've diverted. Message me if you want to know what we do with the pallets so I don't bore anyone else with this.

Know what you mean . My OH is the wood collector. I'm happy as long as I can find variety for my piggies diets. Nice to have a fire in the winter though
