Strange question i know but with a hutch that only has small legs, wouldn't the pigs try to make a run for it when you open the doors? :))

I guess it depends on the personalities and if you move away from the entrance. Left alone, probably they will try venturing out, mine would and it would be a nose to bum piggy train rolleyes

I doubt theyl make a run for it as there prey animals they tend to hide behind or under something or freeze. If the doors were left open though they would build up there courage and wander out so its advisable to keep them closed if you arent there. Alot of people reckon piggys cant jump, when they can ditto can jump really high in and out of his cage...

i know people who have high up cages and there piggies make a run and try to jump out of it haha, i can't imagine it being much of a problem as long as you keep an eye on them when you do open it and don't just go ahead and leave the doors open sort of thing ? (:

This was what I was thinking but I wasn't too sure. I know my 2 can jump!

Ok thanks! And I would never leave the doors open unattended obviously :))

It probably depends on the pig. Mine certainly walk out once the door is opened, but they've been trained to do that... for free play time, I block off the area and let them come and go via the door which opens down like a ramp. However, not all pigs will do this... my cousin had a pig who used to chew at the bars like mad if the door was shut, but who was quite happy to stay in his cage without going nuts as long as the door was left open! I don't recommend this, but it worked for him... he lived to the ripe old age of seven or so without EVER making an escape through the open door!

I guess it does depend on the pigs then as this seems to be what a most people are saying! Don't really know whether mine would try to make a run for it or not... I hope not though seeing as I've just brought them a new hutch that is close to the floor!
