Hi, on Sunday night it is going to be 2 degrees celcius, my two guinea pigs (1 and a half years old) live outside. if they have an insulating hutch cover and a snuggle safe heat pad, i have a blanket and a cot duvet that i can hang over the front, i will put several layers of newspaper in and lots of hay and the hutch is against a wall with another wall about a metre infront of it. Will they be ok in this temerature?

It will depend on the temperature inside the hutch and ensuring it doesn’t get damp inside. Do you have a thermometer inside the hutch? If it gets too cold inside, then it will be hard on them. If you can keep inside warm enough and within their comfort range, then they should be ok but obviously nobody can say for sure. Guinea pigs comfort range of temperature is 18-24 degrees. Any lower than 15 and they can get chilled.
There are measures you can take and it sounds as if you have taken many of them. You say ‘a’ snugglesafe. You may find some benefit in having multiple snugglesafes. I have four snugglesafes between my two piggies (they live in my shed but get locked in their hutch in the shed at night). I put two snugglesafes in the bedroom area (one in each hidey) and then one by each hay rack.

A good extra layer of insulation is a smallish cardboard box turned upside down, so it has a “roof”, with a small doorway cut into it and then stuffed with hay.
@Lady Kelly had a wooden version of this built for her outdoor piggies. I’ll see if I can find her thread

Thats great thanks! I often give them cardboard box versions of these but the piggies chew them to shreds in less than a day, so i will use that idea of a wooden box, thanks!

I have some outside piggies and use a deep layer of bedding.i use vetbed in the the bedroom area, place a cardboard box with two exits.use a snugglesafe heat pad and stuff the cardboard box with as much hay as you can !ive the same covers as you.my piggies seem to be okay.ive not lost any to cold weather.you just have to take more precautions and to ensure you do all you can to keep the hutch warm.i have some fleece snuggle beds that i can place the heatpad at the back and my guinea pigs love these.change the hay daily.it is damp, draughts that cause the most problems.you are showing a keen interest in your guinea pigs welfare,so I'm sure they will be okay.x
